Yes, it's terribly simple. The good guys are always stalwart and true, the bad guys are easily distinguished by their pointy horns or black hats, and, uh, we always defeat them and save the day. No one ever dies, and everybody lives happily ever after.

Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

Woe to the fucking wicked.

While I think the option, as written, is fine, as a technical thing, I think we should open a different thread for general spoilers, rather than simply re-titling the esisting one, should that measure pass.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't repurposing the Angel Spoilers thread end up using more resources than closing it and opening a new thread?

A closed thread can be archived, and its posts removed from the posts table. Threadsucking (say, to look for old Angel spoiler posts) stresses the system more than downloading a zipped thread, because it's querying the database for a huge amount of posts.

So, a vote to close and archive Angel Spoilers (because, if there were to be a general spoiler thread, I'd think opening a brand spanking new one would be the way to go) is not necessarily a vote against having a spoiler thread at all, right (ETA: this is what I get from your thread closing lead-in; I'm just confirming)? I happen to think Angel Spoilers should be closed an archived rather than repurposed. But I still think the idea of a general spoiler thread is worth discussing (ETA: if it comes up as a proposal).

Woe to the fucking wicked.

I was thinking more from an elegance/simplicity of looking perspective, but, that, too.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I'm not adding it to the ballot, though I'd be happy to discuss it further if Gus and Brenda want to hammer out the details and come up with a proposal later.

Just to clarify, I was thinking more along the lines of a "what's on tonight" thing, for post-ep analysis rather than just watch and post, which I agree could be ooky. But i'm in total agreement that we should go ahead with what we have on the table rather than trying to devise new things right now. (And, if the proposals on the table do pass, it would likely moot this idea anyway. If they do not pass, then that might be a time to throw some other ideas out there.)

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Thanks again to Lyra Jane for all your work on this, and to Jon for putting up the ballot every time we have a vote, and to Lee for vote counting.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

Wait. Confused.

I had assumed that closing Angel Spoilers and opening a new general spoilers thread fell under the repurposing option, not the closing option.

If a person were to want that to happen, which option would one vote for?

Gus - Oct 17, 2004 9:08:45 am PDT #4720 of 10289
Bag the crypto. Say what is on your mind.

The ballot looks good. Brenda is me on the Watch-n-Post thing, too. Try the present proprosal, then see if adjustments are desirable.

Oops. OK, so sounds like Debet and I read that differently. And would choose different options even though we might want to be voting for the same thing. Help?

Visilurking

The fear of my deep dark potentially elitist heart? That if our board gives primary focus to shows other than that we were originally drawn together over, that we will avoid stagnation at the cost of attracting an utterly different crowd of people.

I may be completely wrong about this, but weren't the majority of new posters in Firefly and Minearverse brought here by the VIP postings? What I mean is, the peeps who caused the subtle shift (and I might be among them) weren't drawn by the existing Smallville, Due South, Farscape, and LOTR threads. They followed a link from Whedonesque or TV Guide or whereever else they came from. So unless JJ Abrams comes and posts in a Lost thread, I don't think it's going to attract a great number of new posters to our board.
