Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

Certainly no harm in revisting the suggestion of closing it in the Spring, I think.

Tim's new show would likely air in January, about the same time Wonderfalls is released on DVD, and I was thinking they could be switched out or something. But it looks like I'm jumping the gun, the gunner, and the entire platoon.

I can't even.

I would object to WF discussion of unaired episodes in Minearverse until some time after the DVD comes out.

Isn't Minearverse NAFDA?

Since when are unaired eps, NAFDA?

Fair enough. I don't think the active Canadian posters are likely to post about them anywhere other than Atlantic anyway, and I have no problem taking it to Lovesick if that is still around.

Okay.

I'm against a Lost thread because we are four episodes in and I'm not particularly convinced that the show has the wherewithal to actually sustain itself, let alone extended conversation examining the show. Lost is, however, a better candidate for the level of nitpicking that happens in show thread than, say, The O.C. That is of course based on being only 4 episodes in. I'm just against the premature threadation of it. You know. With only 4 episodes and all, who can say?

I'm strongly against an OC thread because it's the same type of comments from week to week. There is almost NO analysis of the show itself, because it's fluff and there is little to actually analyze. Basically it's all "Funny line! Seth is Kat's! Mischa Barton was irritating and looked bad. OH! Who doesn't love Woobie!Ryan?" Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Yes, it's true we can say that each week, but it doesn't especially make an interesting thread to read. And, quite honestly, I wouldn't use it. I'd still post where I post about the show in whitefont. So if you're voting for it to shut me up in Natter or Boxed Set, don't bother cause it won't work. I'll still post it there, and you can thread nanny me all you want to no avail.

On a different note, I kinda hate the fact that this has dragged on for 2 weeks now. Undoubtedly Lyra Jane hates it too. But I'd strongly recommend in the future that we not do a table, poll, more navel gazing then vote.

We have a structure in place. Propose. Discuss. Vote. Not the rest.

We agree on that, if not on the rest of it. Yeah, I should have done the poll first. I do think the poll was a good step for this proposal, though.

As for everything else, I think we basically disagree on why the board should start threads. I think that if 10 people want a nosepicking thread and the board resources are there, they should get a thread to compare brands of tissue and post links to pictures of celebrity nosepickers in, and more power to them. You seem to think -- and please tell me if I'm putting words in your mouth -- that we should only start a thread for an established show that offers many opportunities for meta-analysis. I think the board is at a happy medium between us, and I hope it stays there.

I am sorry to hear you won't join The O.C. thread if we get it, but that's really up to you. As I said earlier, I have no interest in nannying or eliminating discussion.

Bag the crypto. Say what is on your mind.

Someone linked to the wiki from a TwoP Lost forum post and there were over 9000 hits on the wiki from that post. People have a lot of stuff to say about Lost, and a lot people want to read posts about it.

So. We are not, and do not want to be TwoP. I have cruised the Lost forums there, and found that the level of discourse is fairly high, especially in the speculation threads. I think Buffistas can take it up another notch. I, for one, would like to be able to find that Buffista discourse.

The scope of Lost seems to be limited, compared to the Buffiverse. I am not sure that is a bad thing, though. The island is a Petri dish. If the writing doesn't devolve into endless Twin Peaks red-herrings, the series has great potential.

Actually you are wrong.

Now that I've been assured that the board resources can take it, I think it's actually totally charming and good policy to create threads that siphon off people who's font I'd rather not read into other places. If there were a way to make them all stay there, it'd be even better.

And I'm pretty confident, that in the absence of a user filter, others feel the same.

I just think it's too early to open a Lost thread and that an OC thread isn't of enough interest to satisfy the need of that people have expressed for deep sustained conversation, which is a need that I've seen people post about time and again.

So yes. you are wrong for putting words in my mouth.

Ignoring the sarcasm, because I really don't know you well enough to know how to read it, what threads would you like to create?

I am a supporter of giving Lost a shot; lastthis week's episode (I did not see last week's episode) tipped my opinion in favor of its potential as a show that could support an interesting discussion thread. The strong showing in the poll tips it a little more in that direction.

I don't frequent the world of spoilers much, so I'd abstain from voting one way or another on the spoiler thread. But I'd think a general spoiler thread could work. I think there are a lot of spoiler aficianados, so I'd hope there'd be a place for them to meet here. (Er, I guess that's not really up for voting this time, but people are talking about it, so...)

I would love it if Wonderfalls discussion by the lucky Canadians, of whom I am jealous, would happen in either Lovesick or Atlantic rather than Minearverse until the DVDs come out. Like Allyson (I think) posted, Lovesick could probably be closed after the DVDs have been out for a time. (Oh. Also off vote topic. Still, chiming in.)

Agree about voting separately about closing the Angel Previously and Spoiler threads. And the other one. Can't remember now.

I think that's it. Like Katie said, appreciate your work on this Lyra Jane.
