We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

with a gleam in my eye, and an almost airtight alibi

Petty, much? Does this make you feel better? We're not 5 years old.

Steph, you have now called me "rude," and "petty" across two threads. I have done my damnedest not attack you personally, and even when I thought you were being snotty to me in the Spoilers thread, I asked you if that was your intention to give you the benefit of the doubt.

If you're not able to extend me the same courtesy, I'd ask that you leave me alone.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

Oh. I thought I read at least some people stating they would vote against the thread, unless they both knew what the structure looked like, and approved of that structure. I don't remember those same people expressing interest in joining in the activity itself, if the structure met with their approval. I'm too lazy to go back and check, so I'll take your word for it. Thanks.

Oh, I am sure there was some of both. We are so rarely an all people of one voice group. so, we are probably both right in stating what other people posted.

tears gold star in half.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

even when I thought you were being snotty to me in the Spoilers thread, I asked you if that was your intention to give you the benefit of the doubt.

Which I answered in that thread.

If you're not able to extend me the same courtesy, I'd ask that you leave me alone.

Certainly. As long as it's mutual.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

My preference would be for the structure to be as informal as possible. I'd prefer nothing more than "we're discussing this book from date X to date Y." If people want to do things like post discussion questions, then I'd much rather they be posed as, "Hey, what do you guys think about this?" than as "Here's what we're discussing now."

That's exactly how I see it too.

I'm with Hil and Wolfram.

So, people who asked about structure, how are we doing? Have we proved we've thought about this and that it's not going to be a mess--or more of a mess than any other thread on this board?

If I only had a brain...

I think we can fairly say, and this ties into the subcommunities part of this discussion, that there are different thread cultures in different threads on this board. Bitches is different as a place to hang out in from Music. Literary is different, too.

I read this proposal as "The culture in the existing book thread isn't what I want it to be, so I want a new book thread." I will believe that the current Literary thread is inhospitable to a book club when I see the experiment tried and failed.

Good point, Hil. People can just throw in with observations that strike them as interesting instead of feeling confined to a particular topic. Leaves room for parallel discussions, too, and whichever topics take off are the ones that take off. Yep. Work it like the show threads. Good point.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I will believe that the current Literary thread is inhospitable to a book club when I see the experiment tried and failed.

While I agree with the supporters of the book thread, I also agree with Betsy, and have said something similar twice already to no response.

Or we could try the book club thread, and if that experiment fails we move it into Literary.
