Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

Jon - some of the points Kristen has made (as far as I can tell and remember, some of these are paraphrased from her post #3233 in this thread)

  • We currently have 34 open threads

  • We need to compromise and combine/delete some

  • We don't have to panic (that's Kristen's job, and possibly panicking is unionized - I wasn't quite clear on that)

  • We don't need to make core community damaging cuts (like deleting Natter/Bitches)

  • Thread consolidation is necessary for board health
(More threads usually leads to more posts, more loading pages, more database connections open at once)

  • Finding small ways to conserve will add up and help overall.

All is well that ends in pizza.

6) Consolidate Due South, Smallville and Farscape:

If this goes through, may I suggest:

Southscape-1: t insert name here
Description: Genreville. We go here to discuss programs like Due South, Smallville, Stargate SG-1, Farscape and other treasures. May contain mature content.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Might I disagree with Daniel, who's left a door open for a generic TV thread, and debates about what's "like" those shows? I think we should consolidate existing discussion while understanding drift'll happen, but not putting it in the slug or description.

It's cute, kicky and Buffista-like, but ita makes a great point. Kristen was pretty clear about us not being able to handle (and not wanting to attract) the traffic that a genre thread is likely bring.

How about a little modification, Daniel? Something like:

Southscapeville-1: <insert name here>
Description: The small, yet devoted Buffista fandoms of due South, Smallville, and Farscape live here. May contain mature content.

edited to change description)

(Michele - 'subcommunities' is so clinical. Look up. How's that?)

with a gleam in my eye, and an almost airtight alibi

Description: The small, yet devoted Buffistas of due South, Smallville, and Farscape live here.

Small? I'm 5'7"!

"small yet devoted Buffista subcommunities of due South, Smallville, and Farscape fans live here."

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

Is there a strong bullshit consensus for including Farscape in with the rest? I have no objection on a personal basis, but it doesn't seem (to me) to be a natural fit with the rest in that thread. It's, as I understand it (and being only a v. occasional viewer, rather than a proper fannish fan) good genre TV, with arcs and depth and Buffy-level goodness. I'd have thought it was worthy of its own thread, if there were room. If there's not room, then okay, hell with that, combine them all.

No other candidate is asking the hard questions, like "Did geophysicists assassinate Jim Henson?" or "Why is there hydrogen in America's water supply?" --defective yeti

I threadsucked. Betsy HP, askye, brenda m, SeanK, SA, and Fay didn't think it belonged with the rest. Consuela, Katie M, and ita had no problems with consolidation. DavidS didn't want any of them consolidated. SeanK, Consuela, and Jess PMoon said they'd be OK with cutting the thread entirely.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

I've got a ballot ready to go and the wording of each item has been approved by Kat. Unless she wants to make changes, I'm going with it as is.

I'm including the preamble and pro/con arguments in the ballot itself, rather than having a separate page for them. I don't think the page is too crowded and it will be easier for voters to follow along.

Jon B., the pro/con was a lot of work and really helpful. I appreciate it a lot because I was going to volunteer to do one and I thought it would crush me. You rule.
