It's all about choices, Faith. The ones we make, and the ones we don't. Oh, and the consequences. Those are always fun.

Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Monique -- You and Kristen need to be consistant.

I do not hear their posts as inconsistent. I hear Kristen saying not to panic, but to move forward with little changes that we think will streamline things. And I hear Monique saying basically the same thing, but with more emphasis on the fact that little changes *will* make a difference.

Nobody

Monique -- You and Kristen need to be consistant. She and ita are saying not to panic about sql connections just yet. Let's see if the coding changes do the trick. I see Kat's proposal is simple housekeeping. Trying to get rid of threads that are redundant or else low traffic AND without a vested subcommunity.

I read Kristen as saying we need to clean up, but not panic (as in - not undergo a huge fundraising drive and go get a dedicated server before we know if we need it, and to not gut the board (like closing Natter or Bitches)). I did see her say the several small threads are a drain because of how it works (i.e. I end up posting to you about nutmeg in this thread, to ita about it in Bitches, and to Laura about it in Spoilers). Housecleaning isn't panicking. It's been something we've been talking about for months.

And honestly Jon? When we can't add one new thread, because it might kill us, the little redundancies start to hurt us. We have 6 threads in which to discuss Angel, but we can't add one to talk about TV (or beagles, or whatever) in general. Angel reruns seemingly can't find a home in Buffy, Angel, UnAmericans, Atlantic Canadians, Natter or Bitches, but everyone is supposed to squeeze everything else into the Natter thread? It's preposterous.

So what? It's what we do, and what we've always done, in almost all of the threads since we were on TableTalk.

I said that in direct response to your note of the volume of LotR. Sure it's high volume. How high is it if you take out natter - natter that could also happen in Movies (or you know - Natter)?

eta...

DX - to clarify. Some discussion needs a home. Some discussion occurs, because there's nothing going on at home. Movies (if the Movies citizens don't think LotR will be too overwhelming) can serve as a suitable home for LotR discussion. But there are times when there are just posts in LotR because it's there. And yes, that does happen in every thread, and because it happens in every thread, it's one of the reasons streamlining out some threads, might end up adding up to something that helps a little.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Quite frankly what natter I recall in the thread has been concerned with things close to the topic anyway, so would probably have occurred in the movie thread as the subjects came up as well. And either pissed those folks off, or encouraged them to join the tangent, creating a natter synergy.

Thrive to spite them

I'm confused why there can't be one thread to discuss all Buffy episodes and Angel reruns. Hasn't everyone seen the Buffy finale? If that's so then every Buffy episode qualifies for the Previously thread anyway.

Art Crawl!!!

Exactly -- we're about halfway (or a little more) through the last Buffy thread -- when that's done won't all Buffy discussion occur in Previously -- and as I said, I think that Angel repeats will naturally be discussed in Previously too.

Wonder if we'll ever get the serendipitous airing of Buffy/Angel x-overs in the correct order?

Monique -- You and Kristen need to be consistant.

You know, I need to not feel like I have to come back in here and clarify things. Monique was nice enough to take over posting today, on her day off, so that I could get some work done at my actual job since I haven't done much of that this week. The truly amusing thing about all this is that she has been keeping me updated on all her posts and the resulting questions so that we would be consistent.

So I don't see how we're being inconsistent. In the very same post where I told people not to panic, I also said, "There are 34 open threads right now. There has to be some reasonable way to compromise and combine/delete some of those." Monique and I are saying the exact same thing which is:

No, don't panic.

No, we don't need to discuss deleting Natter/Bitches.

Yes, thread consolidation is necessary for the future health of this board.

Yes, deleting redundant threads is necessary for the future health of this board.

Yes, finding small ways to use fewer resources will add up to a nice-sized postive change overall.

I'm at a loss. Just when I think we're making progress in some direction, the discussion takes a turn towards left field. I can't keep up anymore. But if people truly feel that we're being inconsistent or talking out of both sides our mouths or whatever, then I don't know what to tell you, other than maybe Fangeek isn't as good of a fit for this community as we had hoped it would be.

That's not what's been proposed. All Buffy discussion will be in the Buffy thread regardless. If the Previously thread stays, it will be mostly for the syndicated run of Angel, although there will surely be some crossover talk. If the Previously thread gets voted out of existence, then the Angel rerun talk will be folded into the main Angel thread.

We should probably remove the NAFDA designation from the Buffy thread, no?

I just want to say that I don't feel that, and I don't think it's the general feeling on the board. I understand that you're being slammed with hard, often redundant questions, and you're doing your best to answer them. I'm sorry if my questions last night in any way added to your frustration.

Art Crawl!!!

But why do it that way? It makes more sense to let Buffy die-out, move all previouslies to the Previously thread -- maybe we can include discussion of other syndicated shows w/o new episodes in the Previously thread too? It could be Previously on Buffy, Angel, Highlander, Due South, Farscape, Firefly (assuming no new Farscape or Firefly stuff appears.)

The slashy new stuff -- OC, Smallville, Alias could be on one thread too.

SBs are Nafda -- will anyone care if SBs and Natter are consolidated that we will be discussing Spike on Angel before anyone else sees Angel?

t edited for NAFDA spoiler

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

It's the redundant questions, spread over three threads, that's most worrisome.

A Press post explaining what's happening, and how to help, would be most helpful.

You want I should draft this?
