Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!
We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!
Dangit, that's what I get for going to bed early last night. Here we go:
The possibility was raised in the Jossverse and Buffy threads that a BtVS reboot could bring in our first real influx of new members since Firefly premiered. I agree with Plei that a huge increase in active members is unlikely (we don't even allow inline gifs!), we might want to consider updating the "About this site" language to make it clear who we are.
Proposal: Update the "About Us" section and registration page to better represent who we are today, a close-knit community of friends, to set appropriate expectations for new members who may come to us seeking pure fandom.
Current text:
Welcome to Buffistas.org. This site is the online home of the Buffistas, a worldwide community of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly fans.
Proposed new text:
Welcome to Buffistas.org. This site is the online home of the Buffistas, a worldwide community of friends, brought together twenty years ago by our shared love for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly.
Basically something that says right off the bat, "we started out as a fansite but now it's just a bunch of people who sometimes use Buffy references instead of regular words".
Yes. The proposed wording is much clearer. We haven't had new members for years because of the broken registration link, but that will change soon.
In addition to the potential new people finding us (eeep!), there are also many of us who have friends that we feel would be a good fit that we can invite at some point in the future. So pre-vetted new blood.
I like the proposed new text.
I think that's good change.
I'm in favor of the new text. It provides a much clearer description of us now.

NO. WE ARE TOO OLD FASHIONED FOR YOUR NEWFANGLED GIF LANGUAGE.
Like it.
Maybe this will get me off my ass to propose changes to the FAQ and whatnot.
