I don't fancy spending the next month trying to get librarian out of the carpet.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I think I sorted out a prescription refill snafu before it became a problem. (My Ativan prescription needs to be renewed once a calendar year, and apparently this is that time of year, as I found when I went to refill it and got a "refill denied" message. Good people of my primary care practice, we're about to launch into my husband's cancer treatment, with potentially bad bad bad side effects [and, of course, no statistical guarantee that he will be cured, although the cure rates are way up in the 90s% and he has many many good things on his side], so I am very much going to need that antianxiety medication refilled posthaste.) I actually called the doctor's office and spoke to a human, and I think the prescription renewal is now awaiting approval from Awesome Doctor.

I also have to take prednisone yet again (I've already taken it at least twice this calendar year, and I really don't like taking it so often) to try to calm down the pain in my hip and quad. PT is already helping in some areas, but it also leaves me in some pain the next day. The physical therapist has been modifying/switching up some of the exercises to avoid the ones causing actual pain, but she also agreed that there's undoubtedly some angry inflammation going on there that steroids could knock down.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Dylan is all moved into his dorm! So far he and his roommate are getting along, if not BFFs. They have some shared interests (same major + theater nerd shit including D&D) and compatible sleeping preferences (cold room, fan for white noise, early risers). The morning after we moved him in, we saw him from across the street while approaching the building, and when we waved, a student on our side of the street turned around and said "Is that your kid? He KILLED it last night at karaoke!" which was very nice to hear.

The other notable moment from yesterday morning was heading into the parent & family orientation when we shook hands with with the VP of Something Involving Students Probably, she turned to me and said "So what's your major?" Upon learning that I was, in fact, the Mom, she turned to Aeryn and asked them instead (lol also no).

"Is that your kid? He KILLED it last night at karaoke!"

So Dylan already has college on lock. Nice!

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Aw, that sounds like a great start to Dylan's college era!

Thanks for the heads up, parker, I have an appointment at CVS for both flu and COVID shots, woohoo! Assuming I can come up with my Insurance card, but I have a week to sort that out

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

"Is that your kid? He KILLED it last night at karaoke!" which was very nice to hear.

Fuck yeah!

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Good start for Dylan!

Steph, I hope things go as smoothly as possible for Tim, and for you as you help him through.

And yay erikaj’s mom’s news!

I’m taking a break from job hunting to join my family in our annual Labor Day gathering in Lexington, MI. It’ll be nice to see everyone, and the lake. Several of the jobs I’ve applied for are union jobs (yay, Michigan!), so maybe I’ll be able to celebrate even harder next year.

Punishingly Intricate

Everything crossed for you, Calli!

The status is NOT quo.

Crossing fingers, Calli!

Hey, all, CVS has the new COVID vaccines and is accepting on-line appointments. Jim and I are booked for the 7th.

So I said I didn’t have risk of severe illness due to Covid and was told I’m not eligible for the new vaccine. WTF? Do I lie and say I am? I’m a teacher, and Covid is everywhere right now.

ETA: I just changed that second answer to yes, and now I have an appointment Sept. 6. There’s no shortage, so I assume this is just RFK Jr. nonsense.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I can't get it at CVS because MA has a law (and so do 15 other states) that pharmacists can't give vaccines that aren't recommended by the CDC. So I made an appointment to get it from a nurse at my doctors' office.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

It is 100% RFK2 nonsense and has led to a spate of resignations at the CDC. The at risk category is expensive, and they don't, as it were, check.

All kinds of medical-ma to everyone. This is a very time.
