It's all about choices, Faith. The ones we make, and the ones we don't. Oh, and the consequences. Those are always fun.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Oh, that's hard not being with the other people who will miss him, Trudy. Lovely that you all have a practical way to show your appreciation to his daughters at least

Sitcom is a better genre than I usually fuind myself in, so I will accept that! And t minus Bean is cracking me up, makes me think of Garfield without Garfield (I googled (or perhaps I should say "ducked" but I think I am in favor of the xeroxification of google) and it's actually Garfield Minus Garfield so even better!)

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Having the oddly surreal experience of sitting all alone cycling through stages of grief. I keep double-checking the picture, "Its a big firm! Maybe its another Ivan!"

Its always sudden, of course, but I was chatting with him on Tuesday. Nothing was wrong. He was my ageish or even a little younger... I'm half-Anya here - its stupid.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

its stupid.

It is.

{{{Trudy}}} I guess you can't bring the daughters a casserole, is there someone else you can feed in Ivan's honor? Doing something, especially for someone else, can help with the getting through it

The status is NOT quo.

Oh, Trudy, that's so hard. Being a caregiver yourself makes mortality a constant in your life anyway, so the loss of someone close to your own age just adds to that, especially if you cared for them.

is there someone else you can feed in Ivan's honor? Doing something, especially for someone else, can help with the getting through it
I love this suggestion.

The status is NOT quo.

Cereal: In much less serious middle-aged health stuff...

I had a followup fasting blood draw on Monday, and the phlebotomist didn't do a great job. I have a yellowing bruise on the inside of my elbow, with two reddish marks in the center.
In the past two weeks, I have had three blood draws (normal labs before my physical, an MRR titer check, and an insulin resistance and hormone test). Two out of my three phlebotomists were great. Alas, the last one was not, and I have a bruise now. I also have had three shots (tetanus booster that I thought was overdue and then realized AFTER the shot I had boosted three years ago), MMR booster since my immunity was, indeed, gone, and my first shingles shot. Can you tell summer break is ending and I'm trying to fit in ALL the daytime appointments?

Anyway, my genetics have finally caught up with me; I'm going on Crestor because of my cholesterol. My doc has also put me on CoQ10 200 mg to prevent the risk of developing insulin resistance from it. With these two meds and the supplements I already take (multivitamin, probiotic, and one for eye dryness), I think I officially need a daily pill organizer. Feeling 50 today!

Our wings are not tired.

Another beautiful day in Otter Lake. I've been going to the gym with my sister every morning, which results in me feeling like I've accomplished something every day—plans to spend some time in the sun on the dock, or, if I'm ambitious, a bit of kayaking.

My son claims I am power-crazed, as I discovered one of my remotes turns off two of his three monitors when I turn off the television. Mwahahaha! I'm trying to restrain myself, and I've found the remote that only controls the TV.

Sending happiest birthday wishes into the ether to Aims today in hopes she is having a fabulous day.

The lake sounds wonderful, Laura! I, too, would struggle with the remote power temptation.

Happy Birthday, Empress!

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

UPS delivered my first month of Zepbound today, so my first shot is going to be tomorrow. I'm very interested in the non–weight-related effects, like improving sleep apnea (Tim has reliably informed me that anyone who snores the way I do surely has sleep apnea) and reducing inflammation. But yeah, the primary goal is to lose weight. My hip will thank me. I also think it's a good idea to head into the back half of my 50s somewhat lighter than I am now. Plus, I am vain, and I won't hate fitting into a smaller size.
