There are so many good alternatives nowadays that are interesting drinks rather than being relegated to a Diet Coke or a Shirley Temple.
I haven’t gone the medication route myself but I’ve been doing the Optavia plan (used to be known as Medifast) although it is essentially the opposite of fasting. It’s mixes and bars five times a day and one “lean and green” meal. I thought I would hate it but I actually really like it. Meal planning once a day is about all I generally have the energy for and It’s actually quite nice to not have to think about what I’m eating the rest of the day. I’m almost never hungry, even though both the calories and carbs are quite restricted. I have a coach I talk with once a week who is a professional singer in Dallas and is a fucking delight. (she is also blue in a sea of red so I think it’s good for both of us.)
It is a leeetle bit cult like but I’ve been clear from the get-go I wasn’t becoming a coach or anything. (The phone calls alone, my God.)
But it’s really worked. I’ve backslid a little in the last few months, but overall I’m doing really well and it definitely has changed the kinds of things I think about or reach for when it comes to food. Like, I think about salads. As a preference.
Alcohol is also my most common “cheat” But it’s also one I’m generally good with as long as I’m getting the other stuff right. I rarely drink at home so that helps.
Except today! Cracked open a bottle of Moet at 2 PM because after getting laid off a few months ago, in a really shitty fashion, my sister got a job offer today for an organization that seems much healthier and at a salary that is definitely much healthier. Whoo-hoo!
Now we’re both getting our hair done and I have dinner at a hot new Cambodian restaurant tonight.

Huzzah!
Now we’re both getting our hair done
I declare this a National Holiday!
and I have dinner at a hot new Cambodian restaurant tonight.
Also yum.
Yay for new and better jobs!
It’s mixes and bars five times a day
I had to read that phrase 3 times before I could get it through my head that "bars" did not mean "establishments where one goes to obtain and enjoy alcoholic beverages in the company of others."
Can you believe people pay my dumb ass to edit?

Hooray!!!
Hahaha. Probably not the most eloquent way to say that, but. It’s like little mixes for things like shakes and brownies and stuff in easy bake oven quantities. Also, some oatmeal and cereals and things. Took a little getting used to, but it works. And I make judicious exceptions now, although I did not at first. I really felt like I needed a hard reset on my habits and instincts.
Yay sister of brenda!
I had to read that phrase 3 times before I could get it through my head that "bars" did not mean "establishments where one goes to obtain and enjoy alcoholic beverages in the company of others."
And I initially read "mixers and bars" which was even more confusing

We are not the target market for that diet. We'd just end up drunk every day.
Brenda that’s the only other diet I ever managed to stick to and lose weight on (at least for like six months ish). It did feel easier to only have to decide on one meal a day and just eat the prepacked things the rest of the time.
