I look more rad than Lutheranism

That's fair.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

I'm not sure we can afford to count on long term strategizing if the short term is going to just discard the rule of law entirely.

Exactly. The strategies that worked in the Bush era do not apply to our current situation.

Our wings are not tired.

Go Evil Hand! Choose Evil Hand! I have every confidence that you will yield it wisely.

Also fuck cancer. Fuck . My Aunt J's partner (also J) was just diagnosed with prostate cancer. It's spread to his bones. I talked to her today and he has said for TWO YEARS he has suspected he had cancer or something seriously wrong and the Drs dismissed him.

Next week he has another appointment soon to get a better idea of the time frame he has. He is 82.

Aunt J had a complicated marriage where she was a caregiver, then she was the care giver for my grandmother. And only when Grandma E died in 2021 was she able to just go and do things without planning or caring for anyone.

They've been planning several trips and they are going to try and make a trip to Italy happen.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

Teppy, you definitely want an evil hand. And also to be awake. I actually (since it was nothing) enjoyed having the doctor teach the student during my biopsy.

Askye- glad to hear the ultrasound was good but boo to $600

The hospital that I work adjacent to and the entire campus had an electricity outage today! All the backup power went on, but things went out momentarily even in places like the OR. Right after our time clock system was out momentarily. Right after I spent half the day trying to access other resources. I don’t want to say I am paranoid, but are we just hacked. We have so many third party integrations with things…

For context- the only time I remember hospital power going down globally was when the whole Eastern Seaboard went down in 2002. I was on the non medical campus, but I was able to go and get food and air conditioning at the hospital.

Fuck cancer indeed, askye. I’m sorry about your aunt’s partner, and I hope he and your aunt will still be able to do some of the things they planned.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

askye, I have some experience with that. If they want a sounding board, give them my email address.

If his bone mets aren't painful, and if he doesn't have any mets in his marrow or viscera, a trip to Italy in the near future could be very do-able. His biggest risk on the trip might be osteoporosis and breaking a hip.

At his age, his doctors might be reluctant to try chemo. It can be very hard on the immune system.

Some points I often have to make to people new to stage IV cancer:

  • You get no extra credit for suffering pain.
  • There are a lot of very effective palliative care treatments to reduce pain and support quality of life.
  • Palliative care is not the same as hospice care.

Oh yeah there is definitely something up. Same thing happened at UCSF and at Hopkins in the last couple of months.
