Happy birthday Laura!
The status changes for Haitians in the US are horrible. And you know they wouldn’t be doing this if they were refugees from, say, Sweden.
Even with all that, I hope you have a happy birthday, Laura.
Today I’m getting ready to drive back to NC for a work thing this coming week. As I have a new cat sitter from my sister’s soon-to-be former conservative church, I’ve de-paganed and de-porned things a bit. My previous cat sitters did not care. Some of them asked for recommendations. But needs must.
Tomorrow I’ll be going with my sister to check out New Baltimore. It’s not on a Great Lake, but it’s on a reasonably good lake, so I’m going to give it a shot. The surprisingly high geek quotient in Port Huron gives it an edge, though. (Plus, Lake Huron’s right there. It’s in the name and everything.)
Happy birthday Laura!!
Calli are you planning to move again or just checking out places for fun?
Happy Birthday Laura!
The task I have set for myself today is painting birdhouses and hanging them from the edge of my carport. In the hope that they'll be more attractive to birds than building a nest in the overhead lights and pooping on my car.
Happy birthday, Laura!
Meara, I’m looking to move to a permanent location in MI. My current apartment was just a place to land and give me time to explore more carefully. My sister will be moving to a small town in Michigan’s thumb when she retires in 4-5 years, so Port Huron would be convenient for hanging out with her. We’ve done that a lot since I moved, and I’m enjoying it.

As I find myself saying more and more these days, I'm a first-generation American, daughter of someone who never became a U.S. citizen, with a weird-ass name most people don't dare pronounce unassisted, and yet in my entire lifetime I can't remember anyone questioning my right to be here. Funny how that works.
Shocking, Megan. Can’t imagine why. Utterly baffling. (Ugh)
I’m left wishing any of my ancestors were more recent immigrants because even the most recent ones were my grandparents’ parents.
I am on a plane right now and dang this seat is uncomfortable! There’s like zero padding. Also I thought there was one hour left but there are two hours (my phone had magically updated to mountain time somehow?). But we had a successful takeoff and fingers crossed we will land successfully.
Calli that sounds nice, taking your time to decide where to land and spending time with your sister! I do wish my sister lived closer, though at least these days it’s a direct flight rather than a connection.
