Argh. Amazon delivered my package to the wrong house again. NBD in general because I didn’t need the things asap. But a pain because I’m leaving town tomorrow so if a Good Samaritan delivers it, I won’t know, they won’t let me say it’s lost until Monday, and if they redeliver it’ll sit on my porch for several days. Booooo.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I do find it interesting the number of folks who don't have a printer at all.
Especially students. There are printing stations around campus, where they can print stuff from a USB drive or a laptop, but those charge per page. For anything math-based, especially, there just isn't any good system for typing math as you're working a problem out, and digital notebooks are fine for some things but they're a pain when you're flipping back and forth between pages a lot (like going back to see how you did a problem in class so that you can follow that example on your homework.)
Apparently bathroom signs on campus are being changed to say "Biological Men" and "Biological Women," based on a new Ohio law. I haven't seen any of the new ones in person yet, but I saw people posting about it. This is utter garbage.
so dumb--if you know anything about biology(which I do, but not tons) you know about the huge amounts of variation that can be present. Even without adding in all the identity stuff.
If they change the signs in the bathrooms on my hallway (my office is right next to the restroom), I'm thinking about making a sign that says something like "Women of the math department say no to trans exclusion," with spaces for people to sign, and putting it next to or covering up the "Biological Women" sign. There are plenty of people who I know would sign something like that. It's not much, but at least we should have some control over our own department.
I saw that on bsky and wondered if it was your campus. I’m sorry that’s happening. Ugh.
I have a printer but it’s not plugged in. Last time I tried to print anything at work I discovered my badge is not recognized by the printer but I haven’t felt like I needed to fix that. My parents, on the other hand, have been having an issue where their printer/scanner won’t talk to anything else on the network and it is hamstringing my mom’s processes for balancing her accounts and whatnot
That sounds like a good thing to do, Hil, asserting the department’s dissent

Seriously? That is so so SO goddamn ridiculous and hateful. Arrrrrrrrrgh.

Yessssssssss.
Good luck, Hil!
I hadn’t considered that weird math symbols would make paper still a thing, but it makes sense. I do have a printer from work, but I barely ever use it, usually for a page here or there to have a reference list or something. In the past I’d use it for tickets a lot but these days those are all electronic! I definitely know people without a printer at home though most would have one at the office.
Thankfully one of my neighbors delivered me my package! Yay Good Samaritan. (Though tbh I wouldn’t have begrudged someone keeping it and making Amazon pay for a new one, it was just logistical annoyance)
It seems that RAs are being asked to report any trans students on their hallways, so that those students can be moved to the "correct" hallways.
