Wow hil, do the students want them on paper vs electronically?
Absolutely. They hate it on days when there are copier issues and I can only post that stuff online.

I’m not sure if I feel like collaborating or focusing. Can anyone recommend somewhere that could accommodate both?
I laughed heartily.
I can’t remember the last time I copied anything. I do have a printer and can clear jams but printing is a last resort always. I snarl at people who try and give me paper when I request electronic. The grocery store prints out a receipt that says they emailed me. I don’t need that paper either!!
I might be buying a car tomorrow. We shall see.
None of my students have printers, which is annoying when they miss class -- for any paper I hand out in class, I also post the PDF online, but if they miss class, they expect to be able to ask me for the hard copy at the next class, and I don't always have those with me, since I teach all over campus and don't like to drag a ton of paper with me, so I usually just bring what I need for that day. There are a few who like to use a tablet and stylus and write digitally directly on the PDF, but that's usually just one or two students out of a classroom of 45 or so.
I do find it interesting the number of folks who don't have a printer at all.
Interesting. It is nice to scratch notes on things sometimes. I’m just rarely in a room with the people I’m working with.
Argh. Amazon delivered my package to the wrong house again. NBD in general because I didn’t need the things asap. But a pain because I’m leaving town tomorrow so if a Good Samaritan delivers it, I won’t know, they won’t let me say it’s lost until Monday, and if they redeliver it’ll sit on my porch for several days. Booooo.

Especially students. There are printing stations around campus, where they can print stuff from a USB drive or a laptop, but those charge per page. For anything math-based, especially, there just isn't any good system for typing math as you're working a problem out, and digital notebooks are fine for some things but they're a pain when you're flipping back and forth between pages a lot (like going back to see how you did a problem in class so that you can follow that example on your homework.)
Apparently bathroom signs on campus are being changed to say "Biological Men" and "Biological Women," based on a new Ohio law. I haven't seen any of the new ones in person yet, but I saw people posting about it. This is utter garbage.
so dumb--if you know anything about biology(which I do, but not tons) you know about the huge amounts of variation that can be present. Even without adding in all the identity stuff.
If they change the signs in the bathrooms on my hallway (my office is right next to the restroom), I'm thinking about making a sign that says something like "Women of the math department say no to trans exclusion," with spaces for people to sign, and putting it next to or covering up the "Biological Women" sign. There are plenty of people who I know would sign something like that. It's not much, but at least we should have some control over our own department.
