I'm going to the otter cafe today. To play with otters.
Matilda met her host family last night! The mom and youngest daughter took her out to dinner. She said the mom was very nice, she has a room of her own which is big, and they have TWO dogs.
I don't expect this experience to fix everything with Matilda but she's engaged, she's curious, she's meeting people, forming relationships, and ready to dig into the academics. And that's not where she's been since JZ was diagnosed.
I'm going to the otter cafe today. To play with otters.

This is such a wonderful growth experience for Matilda. There will be countless times when as a reflex she will want to share a moment with her mother. After so many years I still automatically think 'oh I have to tell Mom about' something happening in my life. Then I shake my head at myself and just feel warm knowing she would be pleased.
It's so good to hear about Matilda feeling like engaging again. And what an adventure.
I hope the otter cafe is/was all you'd hoped and more. Otters!
My plan for the weekend is to read a lot, and I have lunch with a friend tomorrow. That's about it. Though, it's been a couple of weeks since I've seen my "regular" friends, so probably something with them, I'm guessing.
I’m home. We had a great time talking about books and eating cheesecake. I’m still not sure why anyone would want to be my friend, but I appreciate the encouragement here.

Much ~ma for everyone who is out of work or worried about losing their jobs right now.
I’m going to London tomorrow night and I am woefully unprepared. Including for the presentations I need to give, but fortunately, those aren’t until Tuesday.
This has been a long chaotic week. But nothing like what a lot of people are experiencing, including lisah and Mr. Flea and Cash and everyone.
Plus, I get to go to London tomorrow. For free! In business class!
Therefore, I am choosing to be salty about the fact that the Polaris lounge at O’Hare is closed for remodeling so I have to have my preflight free drinks in the chump lounge. (AKA the regular United Club.)
Which very nearly IS a diamond shoes too tight problem. BUT ALSO when am I going to have access to the Polaris lounge again? No time soon that that’s what.
