"...and then Legolas and the Hulk destroy the entire Greek army." - Penny Arcade

No, a Roman salute is when you thump your chest.

Job-ma for Mr Cash!

I woke up to snow on the ground here in South Texas. Not enough for a snowman, just covering the ground, but it's sticking. It was more than the "wintry mix" we were supposed to get anyway.

Oh, and today is Library Day, but they're closed of course. Oh well.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Job-ma!

That's great, askye. Well done facing your anxieties and money fears and adulting your way through it. Glad your Fidelity rep was accommodating.

I've avoided most of the Trumpy stuff and inauguration though I have glanced down through his executive actions.

It's was weird and whiplashy hitting FB memories yesterday because it went from 2017 inauguration (grim) to 2021 inauguration (exultant) to the beginning of JZ's cancer care.

Heather Richardson's letter this morning pointed out something that I didn't quite grasp about Trump's crypto launch:

*******

Trump, who once trashed cryptocurrency as “based on thin air,” launched his own cryptocurrency. By Sunday morning it had made more than $50 billion on paper. Felix Salmon of Axios reported that “a financial asset that didn’t exist on Friday afternoon—now accounts for about 89% of Donald Trump’s net worth.”

As Salmon noted, “The emoluments clause of the Constitution,” which prohibits any person holding a government office from accepting any gift or title from a foreign leader or government, “written in 1787, hardly envisaged a world where a president could conjure billions of dollars of wealth out of nowhere just by endorsing a meme.” Salmon also pointed out that there is no way to track the purchases of this coin, meaning it will be a way for those who want something from Trump to transfer money directly to him.

Former Trump official Anthony Scaramucci posted that “anyone in the world can essentially deposit money” into the bank account of the president of the United States...[Melania made $5B. on her crypto]

CNN noted that the release of the meme coin had raised “serious ethics concerns,” but those who participate in the industry were less gentle. One wrote: “Trump’s sh*tcoin release has caused possibly the greatest overnight loss of credibility in presidential history. He made $60B. Great for Trump family, terrible for this country and hopes we had for the Trump presidency.”

Walter Schaub, former head of the Office of Government Ethics under Trump in his first administration, who left after criticizing Trump’s unwillingness to divest himself of his businesses, wrote to CNN: “America voted for corruption, and that’s what Trump is delivering…. Trump’s corruption and naked profiteering is so open, extreme and pervasive this time around that to comment on any one aspect of it would be to lose the forest for the trees. The very idea of government ethics is now a smoldering crater.”

********

I knew Trump was going to use the presidency to enrich himself again, but wow, that level of corruption was beyond my imagining. Basically people can pay him any amount of money without any oversight to buy favors.

It's crazy melty land where his supporters think he's going to "drain the swamp" while he creates a swamp bigger than the Pacific Ocean.

ION, we're going to Japan tomorrow and we still have shit to do.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Which first came out as jib~ma, which is also good but not what you asked for.

I am confident they will like the cut of his jib!

I buried my head yesterday, but I’m starting to get caught up on what’s in motion while trying to hatch strategies that go beyond doomscrolling (now with extra doom!).

Punishingly Intricate

Well I came into a stop work order on the government contract I’m working on. Nobody knows wtf is up.

I buried my head yesterday, but I’m starting to get caught up on what’s in motion while trying to hatch strategies that go beyond doomscrolling (now with extra doom!).

All the same.

Our wings are not tired.

Job~ma sent, Cash.

I'm off to get my left eye done to match the right one. I would recount the ordeal that has prevented me from getting the right drops in a timely manner, but it is too lengthy. I'll just have to get them directly from the doctor again since communication with the pharmacy seems to be impossible. (5 tries, no luck)

I will undoubtedly disappear from screens again as I acclimate to new bright and vivid vision again on the other side.

The only news I get is from Borowitz and late-night comics. There are newsletters I skim. I turned off all of the alerts for the sake of sanity. It is just too overwhelming.

Omg thank you!! Did not realize that as a thing you could do!

Good luck Laura!!

I was going to say how do I make sure my retirement isn’t invested in shitty trump coin but probably if it fails it’ll somehow bring down the economy and we will be on the hook to rescue the banks anyway or some shit. I am feeling so pessimistic.

Why isn't everyone pelting me with JOY, dammit? - Zenkitty

Thanks for the well-wishes; my stomach and I are feeling much better today!

Job~ma to Mr. Cash!

Something stood out to me from Hec's quote:

hopes we had for the Trump presidency
I thought to myself, "Someone had hopes? That's adorable."

Eye~ma, Laura! (Just realized she probably won't see this. Oh well, I always say that sending out good energy is a good thing no matter what the form. (Hence, as a Christian, being OK with Wiccan friends doing spellwork for my healing - I take the good intentions in the form they are offered).

Travel~ma, Hec!

Geez, Steph, that's literally horrifying. Living in California, even in a red-tinted city, I am mostly insulated from that kind of stuff. I was literally frightened when I read your post.
