I'm so sorry, but if it makes you feel any better, my fun-time-Buffy party night involved watching a robot throw Spike through a window, so if you want to trade... no wait, I wouldn't give up that memory for anything.

Jen! The ACPT?? [link] It's in Stamford, CT. I could go to that again! (I only went when it was in NYC for a while

Ooh, that’s an hour and a half or so from me, count me in!

Our wings are not tired.

Suhweet! It looks like a mini F2F in CT in our future.

Went to a new eye doctor yesterday. He was a lovely person. He did however tell me that new glasses aren't going to make me see any better and that I need cataract surgery on the right eye. He also said that when I had that done I would be so shocked I would want it done right away on the left one too, which isn't as bad. He said he couldn't say bad things about an eye doctor but could say he wasn't familiar with someone if he didn't recommend them. He gave me the names of his 4 favorites and all of them are on my insurance. I called him back this morning and he said he would see who could get me in first. So, frankly I dread it because I am a major chicken, but I do miss being able to see stuff. I can read fine, but my far vision is awful.

Today bone density to continue doing all the things.

Go Laura taking care of yourself!!

My friend finally got here yesterday, so it feels much more normal here now that it’s not just me and one other girl rattling around in this house—there’s now four of us and two dogs.

If I want to become a cloud of bats, does each bat need a separate vaccination?

I certainly don’t think murder is a good solution to this systemic problem.

It's unlikely the new CEO will make the company significantly less evil.

I also don't want people getting shot on NYC sidewalks, just in general. That's not the version of NYC I want to live in.

Laura, my DH had cataract surgeries this past year. He is a major chicken and avoids any anesthesia. He finally signed up for one eye when they assured him he didn't have to go totally under, and his vision got to a point where it was really affecting his life. (our life) Just as your doctor predicted, he went home from the first surgery and immediately signed up for the second, sorry that he didn't just do both eyes because it was amazing to see again, and see color again.

Hi, all. Been a while. You changed your hair?!?

Just read your thing, erika. One of the better takes I've read in the last few days!

Yeah, that's what I keep coming back to. The resonating anger from the public is certainly interesting, though.

My dad just had cataract surgery, like in the last 6 weeks I think? One eye and then the other a couple weeks later. The thing he liked least was the regimen of what drops had to go in his eyes before and after (he got them wrong after the first surgery) and the restrictions on what he could do while he was recovering - the actual surgery was apparently a breeze and he's been happy with the results so far. The exciting part for him is that he's supposed to have improvement in both his near and far vision as his brain gets used to the new capabilities added to his eyes.

Hi Sparky1! It is a long time since I changed my hair, sigh.

Thanks all. Hi Sparky! I have the consult lined up for the 19th. Since the doctor said the cataract is coloring things brown, everything looks like I am looking through brown sunglasses. I am so easily influenced. I've gone through it with my mother and siblings so the drops schedule won't be a surprise. I just want it done asap as I know I am not seeing the way I used to. I want to see the moon details! And the bodies jogging on the beach!

The DEXA today should give a clue on how these old bones are doing. They scheduled my follow-up extensive breast scan for January 22nd so obviously not too worried. I'll probably ask them to put me on a waitlist. I just want to put a bunch of checkmarks on my list.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

My grandmother had cataract surgery in the 70s, my mom had it in the early 2000s, and my sister will probably have it in 2025. It’s definitely a procedure that the medical establishment has down well.

Now that I’m in a new place, with new insurance, I need to find new a new doctor. I’d just found myself a new one in NC, after my awesome doctor of 20+ years retired. I mean, being able to get regular medical care is a privilege and all. But the process of setting it up is tedious. “Hello. Is Dr. Whatsit taking new patients? I need to set up my annual fat shaming and get a referral for a boob squeeze. Ta ever so.”
