Natter 78: I might need to watch some Buffy for inspiration
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place.
Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Theodosia has started one.
Thanks, Theo! That's super helpful and fun to see us all clustered together there.f
I am really liking it over there. I hope some of my holdouts on Twitter migrate to Bluesky.
EM came over this morning and we did needful paperwork. This included paying property taxes online, and I have to tell you it's weird selecting the payment and it goes in a Cart like I'm ordering something off Etsy. Then it's also very weird to push a button and pay $16,000. Sheesh.
Then Emmett joined us and we moved furniture around in advance of the tree. Then we dragged Matilda out of bed and we went and got the tree.
The whole tree-carrying-home-from-Cole-Hardware tradition has been intact since Emmett was in a stroller. So yay for Holiday continuity.
So yay for Holiday continuity.
That makes me happy. The kids put up our big tree and out little tree while they were home for Thanksgiving so it looks pretty festive.
We made an overnight run into Michigan this week(IYKYK) and the cat is still pissed off at us. She’s become more cuddly and needy since it got cold outside.
I’m following a bunch of city planning types, starting to explore book accounts, and very quietly following BlackSky. I’m trying to de-emphasize pundits and politics folks (who are easily seen in the Discover or Popular with Friends tabs so the following tab will hopefully be a little more conversational over time. I also somehow pinned a Noticias do Momento feed, which despite the name is a lot of mostly English language but not all American news outfits.
Plus a strong vein of clowning-on-Aaron-Rodgers accounts and other sportsball topics.
I'm @pixkris over on Bluesky. Also, hi. My neck/back is out again, so I'm currently lying in bed hoping the ibuprofen and muscle relaxers do some magic. I took a half day today and went to the chiropractor and Thai massage place, which helped a bit, but I'm definitely still hurting.
Ouch, Kristin. May it all combine to make you feel much better soon.
Thanks for the Buffista thing, Theo! That makes finding people easy. Nice.
I never twittered, so am not blue skying but if I feel the urge glad to know y’all are there!
meara, same. I did have a Twitter account, but I pretty much only used it to rage-tweet at the phone company when our internet went out, which hasn't happened since they switched to fiber.
I'm also a very lapsed Instagrammer. Mostly I'm on Tumblr like the gremlin that I am.
In random news, I've decided I want to go to the NYT crossword... er, thing?... in Boston (I think) next year, so I'm hoping to finally meet some of the Boston adjacent folks! I think it's in March. I think Jesse has gone before, too -- I'll have to ask for the scoop. I'm not at all a competitive-level player, but it seems like a fun thing to do.
Jen! The ACPT?? [link] It's in Stamford, CT. I could go to that again! (I only went when it was in NYC for a while.)
I am posting some on Bluesky.
Jesse, yes! (I am laughing at my "I think it's in Boston," when it's actually in a different state, ha!) Want to do it? That works be awesome on many levels. I still haven't met you in person!
And other Buffista puzzlers, too -- everyone should think about it! (And then do it.)
If you guys come down to Stamford my place is literally 20 minutes away. I’d love that!
I’m on BlueSky but at the risk of sounding I dunno, like an asshole? I really try to follow folks that I don’t see/hear from elsewhere. I’m pretty compartmentalized on the socials because I use the different sites in very different ways. Please please please don’t take it personally if I don’t follow back there. I promise I get caught up on ya here and/or Facebook.
Twitter was my home for 15 years and it’s been hard to quit it but I did a few months ago. The election had me in a VERY bad way and for my own sanity I had to stop all news intake. I now listen to Bach every morning on the advice of Laura Linney, and I have found myself in a much better, productive headspace. (It doesn’t mean I’m not going to Fight Like Hell, it just means I’m not riding the emotional roller coaster of the hourly “news” cycle. I’ll fight when it’s not longer conjecture and speculation.)
Edit: I better see those LTC & Santa photos, SJ! And Kristin I hope your back mends very quickly. It’s so debilitating when core movement is impeded and painful.
