David Brooks had an article in the op/ed saying the MAGA people have the outlook that belief in institutions, even ones that are supposedly on their side, is seen as an attribute of the enemy. This collided with a conversation I had with Mom about how much traction they got the first time by just ignoring the norms of the US government and I realized: This is just the "Move fast and break things" shit all over again. No wonder he gets on so well with Elon.
Tom: Holy crap, that's my company's health insurer!
ETA: Teppy, hah!
Woah, the CEO of the 8th largest company in the world was just assassinated in midtown NYC.
Holy shit, that's less than 10 blocks from my office.
I did not think the break down of the rule of law would be quite so fast and dramatic
Hah Teppy that would be amazing.
Feel bad for the dude and his family but not shocked someone would want to kill him. Health insurance in this country is awful.
That was my first thought, meara. Insurance companies can and do bring on the rage. No idea if this was the case, but I can see a grieving person thinking this way.
I had to dig through emails to figure out that the insurance plan I will be switching to in 2025 because the premiums are cheaper than Kaiser is, in fact, United Healthcare (it's only referred to by initials most of the time and I was honestly only registering "Kaiser and not-Kaiser" as I went through Open Enrollment). If someone was able to figure out that the insurance company they had a grudge against was this one, and worked out who the CEO was and where he'd be and how to get away with shooting him...well, I guess that's not impossible
I can’t get over the fact that the gunman’s plan hinged on his leaving his bike unlocked and counting that it wouldn’t be stolen while he lurked outside a hotel lobby.

Ha!

Right!
A great narrative that sums up what went down in South Korea. Great writing. [link]
She was one of the people I was following on BlueSky yesterday!

Witty tech writer. She also deferred from being interviewed by other media saying, “I’m not the best one for on camera interviews.”
