Thanksgiving lunch was just my mother and me at my place. I defrosted some cornbread dressing and heated it along with pulled chicken, while Mom brought broccoli cheese casserole and roasted veggies.
Our big family get-together is for lunch tomorrow. The apple pie I was baking for it slid off the pizza stone and landed face-down on my kitchen floor, so instead of dessert I have unusually expensive kitchen fragrance with a lot of mess to clean up. On the bright side, I neither burned myself nor had to deal with broken pyrex—the pie plate is fine.
Pie tragedy where you escape mostly unscathed is the least tragic kind. In other news, Iowa beat Nebraska by 3 at the literal last second,(Technically I could cheer for either side since Dad was born in Nebraska, but since he and Mom both went to U of Iowa, go Hawkeyes!)
Longhorns and Aggies tomorrow, while I'm driving home no less!
Unfortunately, Leifur’s eating issue was a sign of bigger problems. He’s had kidney and thyroid problems for years, and the combination is hard on the liver. He went into liver failure, and I had to put him to sleep this morning. The vet said this would have happened regardless of travel, and at least he enjoyed the trip and exploring the new space.
My sister is here and helping me unpack while crying. I still have Javier, but Leifur was the cat of my soul. There’s a lot of pre-Christmas stuff that will be different without him.
Oh, Calli, that is heartbreaking. I am so sorry.
Oh Calli that is so hard. I’m so sorry. A new place will be hard without your old friend.
Oh, Calli, what a time for it to happen. I'm so sorry for the loss.
I'm so sorry, Calli. I'm glad your sister is with you.
A friend of mine from Carrboro said Leifur stayed with me long enough to see me home. A lovely thought, but it’s still hard.
Calli, I am so, so sorry.
