Natter 78: I might need to watch some Buffy for inspiration
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place.
Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I don't know if I feel worse than 2016, or 2000 for that matter. I think the stakes are higher because of the power and influence behind the scenes. He is so easily manipulated. The courts, Ukraine, NATO, and all the people at risk. The numbness is there for sure. I'm not able to watch the news yet.
I do have to get it together and focus on what I have control over, but it hasn't happened yet.
Poor Skinner still wants nothing to do with food.
That Guy is going to be my Unpleasant Intrusive Thought for a while.
Oh god that is so accurate.
Tuesday night was giving me 2000 flashbacks.
Pretty much in a fog ever since, focusing on work with blinders on. It's my mom's birthday today, my sister is coming down for it, hopefully we will not all be bumming each other out the whole time but even that might be kind of nice if it's what happens
I do not understand the states that vote down the abortion bans and then voted for him. I DO NOT GET IT.
If people are not engaged politically, I can see them not wanting an abortion ban and then not voting for the party that they blame for the cost of groceries.
Yeah, I know people are paid to read those tea leaves and whatnot and I know they wanna profile it? But as somebody who's talked to voting randoms, in addition to the activists that are more of my current assignment, the talking heads do not leave enough room for people...not understanding shit and how stuff works.(Not that I'm saying they're dumb. Modern life is...crowded with a lot of details and there can be elaborate(and expensive, but that's another TED talk) mystification operations that keep people from really getting it.
They're only dumb, sometimes.(weak smile)
Really hard for disabled people that Brown won't be there. In my opinion, he was shaping up to be a true champion of our issues and that doesn't happen every day. Whether or not the guy that won gives every indication of being an overprivileged turd. Allegedly.(Sorry about the jargon, people. I just soak in that all day. Hard to turn off. I'm kidding, of course)
One of the local NPR commentators was saying that a lot of these voters are going to get buyers' remorse sooner than you might think, there are already businesses that are anticipating high tariffs starting Jan 21, buying up goods in anticipation (because the price is going to go way way up) and cancelling Christmas bonuses because of the anticipatory spending.
If I didn't know it was going to hurt me, and my dear friends and family, I'd be more gleeful about the coming recession.

I feel like a goddamned Cylon: All of this has happened before ...
I saw a post on Tumblr (via Steph) which reassured me (somewhat) about the ACA. They said a lot of stuff, but basically, even if Trump tries to get rid of it on day one, there would be a ton of pushback, including from the insurers, and the bureaucracy would ensure that nothing would happen quickly.
Or I could just link the whole thing instead of trying to sum up:

I get so much genuinely useful information from Tumblr, in between vampires and aliens and firefighters.
Timelies all!
What you all said, with an added FUCK for emphasis.
Reminder to self: schedule shingles and TDaP vaccines asap. Also schedule passport application.(My passport was in the purse that got stolen) Not that there's any country I could move to that I'd want to live in. I'm third generation American. The only country I could do birthright citizenship is Israel, which: hell, no.
