I like the way the walls go out. Gives you an open feeling. Firefly is a good design. People don't appreciate the substance of things. Objects in space. People miss out on what's solid.

Our wings are not tired.

Are you near Rangeley Lakes or the Carabasset Valley? They roam more in Winter. We spend our whole summer in mid-coast Maine these days, but "vacation" on the interior lakes. The moose are not friendly, so you don't really want to see one.

We are in Stoneham which is fairly close to New Hampshire border mid state. Nothing close to us really except lots of lakes and mountains. Very pretty. The kids went to an open mic thing at the local pub last night and people were walking up and introducing themselves and super friendly.

I'm hoping that it is clear tonight because there are no population lights at all and the stars should be amazing.

Brenda, I am super jealous of you being at the convention! It looks incredible. The number of people crammed together with no masks still kinda makes me tremble though.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Awww, poor Brendon.

Amy Tan (of all people) puts out a regular notice on the dangers of falls on stairs especially as people get older, with lots of preventive tips. (I think she's had two bad falls, and her husband took a header too.)

It's a very mundane hazard that can have big, lingering, sometimes fatal consequences.

(I'm also reminded of my earliest days on the internet when I would haunt an AOL forum of grieving widows, and a high proportion had lost their husbands from falling off the roof or ladders. Again, gravity is a harsh mistress. One of the last fights I had with JZ was when she was tottering on a ladder in front of our open window.)

Yah, I always hold on to railings now. Knock wood. Which is not to Brendon-blame or -shame! Just saying it's where I am in life now.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I hope 20 or so years in the future when we say That Fuckin’ Guy young people will have no idea who we are talking about (unless they are big history nerds, I suppose)

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I hope Brendon didn’t take too much damage from his tumble.

Coding and Sleeping

Lots of leg~ma for Brendon.

Our older dog, Freya is starting to have trouble with the stairs, at least when doing down, so sometimes I have to carry her down and that's a bit nerve-wracking because I can't see the stairs well and I need to use both arms to carry her (our other dog I can just tuck under one arm, but she's young and doesn't need any help with stairs). It also doesn't help that they wind around the bend.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Yikes! Sorry about Brendon's tumble.

My switch from third floor walkup to single level detached home seems to have come at just the right time, and alleviated most of my tendonitis pain. I never fell on the stairs, but several of my neighbors did and I took them very carefully as a result.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Matilda said goodbye to her friend Veronica this morning, the third of her close friends who have left for college this week. It's making her very sad, on top of the approaching anniversary of Jacqueline's death.

However, Emmett is coming over shortly and we'll all go to breakfast at a new creperie.
