"You should never say bad things about the dead, only good… Joan Crawford is dead. Good.” —Bette Davis

I just found out a few days ago the reason a former supervisor of mine was let go unexpectedly several years back. I'd avoided asking her because (1) it wasn't really my business, and (2) I didn't want to know anything that could impact our friendship, or force me to choose sides between her and management who are relatives and friends of mine. But Mom got the 411 at a family event recently and spilled to me.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

And one of our maintenance guys got fired this week for un-explained reasons. He was very popular with both staff and residents, so very helpful and eager to please. And also, he's romantically linked to the head of nursing. (She says he's already landed a new job, so that's a small beam of joy.)

If I want to become a cloud of bats, does each bat need a separate vaccination?

Several years ago a co-worker of mine walked out halfway through the day and just never came back. And since he never officially quit it took WEEKS before our team lead was even allowed to say "He no longer works here" and start hiring to fill his role. (We weren't told that he hadn't given notice, of course, but it became clear after weeks of silence that HR was waiting some legally mandated amount of time before they could consider him to have quit retroactively, I assume to avoid paying severance to someone who just LEFT.)

the hardest to learn / was the least complicated

Fucksake, I went out to retrieve an Amazon package delivered to the next-door neighbor’s porch, walked up 2 of the 4 steps on their porch, and my right knee just decided it was done with being a knee. It just kind of collapsed in a direction that it shouldn't go.

It hurt so badly that I had to just hold the railing tightly and breathe deeply for like a minute so I wouldn’t yell, because I was on my neighbor's steps and that would be embarrassing. Then I leaned way forward to get the package, because I didn’t think it was a good idea to go up the last 2 steps, maneuvered my way back down the steps *backwards*, limped back across our yard with the box in my arms, figured out how to climb the 4 steps on our front porch, and now I am full of ibuprofen with an ice pack on my knee. What the fuck. It hurts a LOT.

I had other plans, none of which involved elevating my leg and icing my knee. Tonight we are getting sushi and seeing Deadpool & Wolverine, and the knee issue is not going to stop me. The movie theater seats recline, so that's a bonus for my knee.

"I'm useless alone." // "We're all useless alone. It's a good thing you're not alone."

Knees are bullshit.

I...may not be going to get sushi for dinner and seeing a movie. This shit really hurts if I move at all. It doesn't hurt as long as I have my leg propped up and don't move.

Fortunately, we are so decrepit and falling apart that we have many icepacks.

"I yam what I yam and that's all what I yam," -- Popeye

Yeah, don't make it worse.

Is an ER visit getting serious consideration?

Our wings are not tired.

Whoever designed these mortal bodies should have been fired and replaced with a competent engineer.
