Zoe: Uh huh. River, honey? He's putting the hair away now. River: It'll still be there... waiting.

Our wings are not tired.

Meanwhile, this entire group of parents see a disabled mom and an 8 year old struggling with the equipment and chairs and such and not a single one offers to help.

What the hell is wrong with people!?! Seriously, I will never understand. I do have to say I was relieved with how helpful people were on the cruise for my sisters. They were both in scooters and people let us go in elevators first, made way for us going in and out of shows. Generally, most people were decent humans.

I have a Shir in my house!

Yay! May there be many giggles, and doggo snuggles.

That's crappy, sj. I mean, like, you'd think they'd want to model how to be an engaged human for their kids, if nothing else! I mean, sure, everyone just wants to get home, but... damn. I guess they don't know how to do it, so they don't model it.

I bitch about other humans all the time, but I don't actually go through the world with blinders on most of the time. I give off the "don't bother me" vibe, but I still try to be generally helpful if I see something. Or, at least, that's what I aspire to.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

It’s not like they are even rushing to leave they’re just standing around talking.

So much for that thought, then. Just, ugh!

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

How exciting, smonster! All the -ma!

Just got off the phone with the school counselor, as I wanted to check in with her on a variety of end of school issues with Matilda.

Matilda is just so done with the teen girl drama. One of the girls she has beef with officially Reported Matilda for "Unnecessary Eye Contact." This occurred in the bathroom while they were changing stalls.

Matilda had to see the Principal, and they both laughed about it. But the microagressions are a pile of suck.

eta: I told the counselor that Matilda was going to miss May 17th, the day before the Memorial. She noted that they have Awards Assembly that day and Matilda would want to be in attendance just for that part.

Also, Matilda's baseball coach said he was retiring her number.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

I am so glad not to have to be a teenager ever again. It's like being one large exposed nerve.

Well put! I was just reading Zadie Smith's article yesterday about her teenage angst and it was both a funny look back with cool dispassion on her overwrought drama and a slightly harrowing portrait of...well, being one large exposed nerve.

In Zadie's case, her defiant awkward self obsessed period ended abruptly when she stole her mom's cigarettes, sat in the window to smoke them and promptly fell out of the window, surviving a 30 foot fall but breaking both her legs.

There are times when the southernism "Bless her heart" is pretty much the only response.

Always Anti-fascist!

sj, personally, I don't know which is worse: Not getting help when you could use it. Or someone offering something you don't really need and expecting to be treated like Citizen of The Year. For me, it's a toss-up.
