This is so nice. Having everyone together for my birthday. Of course, you could smash in all my toes with a hammer and it will still be the bestest Buffy Birthday Bash in a big long while.

It's actually been a really hard year, when you stop and do the math. Eliot would cry, too, if it didn't take him seventy minutes of therapy, two cocktails, and a Sondheim medley before he can experience a human emotion through the haze of his PTSD.

I have my 6-week follow-up for my surgery today, and they'll get an x-ray to see how everything is healing inside. Fingers crossed it's all healing very well, because...

I’m probably insane, but I’m going to ask the surgeon if I can get my hip replaced in December at the 3-month mark after spine surgery. I can’t take any NSAIDs because they inhibit bone growth, and I need the neck vertebrae to fuse. No NSAIDs means my hip pain is ridiculous. Like, it’s fine while I’m sitting around, but standing up and walking is extremely limited now, and if I overdo it I really pay for it the next couple of days.

I’d rather get it replaced ASAP, even if that means it might throw off everything at Christmas. Also, I’m pretty sure we’ve hit our out-of-pocket max this year between Tim’s lung surgery in May and my spine surgery. (We sound like we are so much more decrepit than we really are! I think the only reason we aren’t being kept alive by machines is because we’re in our 50s, which means relatively easier recovery from stuff.) (Although I would not object to being a head in a jar on a robot body. I’d love to have flamethrowers for hands and go to Capitol Hill.)

Anyway, I would just like to be mobile again and get my life back, so if that means a hip replacement in December, then I’m really going to push for it. Fingers crossed!

This too shall pass.

Getting it done sooner, especially within the same deductible, does sound like the best plan.

Our insurance is going to be so befuddled that the person on the plan who keeps getting surgeries is NOT Tim.
