Thrive to spite them

So I did not get a rental car. We drove to the airport and they said they couldn't help us. That I would have to pay all the fees because the reservation wasn't transferred over. What I should have done was called Enterprise corporate right then and there but I did not. Instead I called them on our way back to drop me off at work to try and cancel the reservation and also get the deposit back. The person I spoke to was apologetic and acted surprised at what I dealt with and said they were escalating the situation to the regional manager and I would hear from someone.

I have not heard from someone.

I texted Dad to let him know we were changing our plans to come down on Tuesday (today) so we could find a rental car etc and he told me that it was extremely windy with small craft advisories for almost everyday we would be at the back. Which means we wouldn't be able to spend a lot of time ON the beach when it's that windy because the sand gets blown around and also it just sucks sitting in the wind. AND October has been a really rainy month so there was a lot of standing water and mosquitoes are really bad down there so we also couldn't sit outside on the deck at the house. And he suggested we just don't go down there. And so we did not. I ended up only cancelling my PTO for next Sunday and Monday and taking the rest of this week off. When I get enough PTO accrued again we will go back. Mom offered to lend me her car but it's hard for her to get in and out of mine and by yesterday I was fed up with everything.

So now it's a staycation and maybe I'll get some stuff done round the house or go up and see mom. Yesterday M and I went to get a birthday present for his nephew and had a really disappointing lunch.

The only good news is M's mom went to the doctor and got a decent report. In addition to the food poisoning she had a UTI and that is cleared up. The doctor said they were aware of the cysts on her ovaries and did scans before and nothing has changed since those scans. And they are running blood work for the liver and will get back to her. She has also been pretty good about drinking more water.

Steph I feel like getting your hip replaced now makes a lot of sense not just because of the out of pocket max part but also it sounds like it will have to happen at some point and might as well get it done before it gets worse.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

Max Out of Pocket is the best! Free healthcare! If they can get you scheduled, since lots of people tend to be in the same boat.

So, I started the new job, and...okay, so there's this goose, and it's the state bird and endangered, and you Do Not Mess With Nene (up there with sea turtles and monk seals). And we get them just...wandering around campus. Like, I regularly have a pair of highly-protected birds less than 10 feet from me.

Steph, here's hoping you can get that done -- I will say that, anecdotally, both my 88-year-old aunt and her 64-year-old daughter had really easy and speedy recoveries (and are SO much happier) after each had a hip replacement, so maybe it's the kind of surgery that will get a thumbs-up even though it's right on the heels of the other one. Fingers crossed.

Sorry you had all that rigmarole, askye. Enjoy the staycation, though.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

That's pretty dang cool, Debet! I mostly know about the Nene from their appearance in crossword puzzles. I hope they are less aggressive than, say, Canada Geese...

Bummer on the rental and the weather, askye. I hope the staycation gets better as it goes on.

Makes sense to start seeing about swapping out the hip, Tep, if stopping the NSAIDS is that debilitating you probably aren't doing yourself any favors walking around with he pain masked!

We were supposed to have a department lunch today to celebrate October birthdays, but Panda Express canceled our order at the last minute so now I have to figure out my own lunch again. I only saw the email that we'd have lunch after I was in the office so it is not really a big inconvenience for me but my co-worker who was trying to organize all this is pissed. We'll try again next week, I guess.

It's actually been a really hard year, when you stop and do the math. Eliot would cry, too, if it didn't take him seventy minutes of therapy, two cocktails, and a Sondheim medley before he can experience a human emotion through the haze of his PTSD.

Everything is healing very well, and the surgeon's PA said that clinically there should be no problem getting my hip replaced in December! They'll take x-rays again in early December to be totally sure, but it looks like it's a go on their end. So now I need to meet with the orthopedic surgeon (who will be a totally different ortho guy than the dick that I initially saw).

Yeah, it feels crazy to have 2 surgeries in 3 months, but my hip pain is so fucking bad. And since we hit the out of pocket maximum, we should exploit it!

This too shall pass.

Woot! Get all the shiny new parts!
