Unpaid work is no fun but especially not without a/c!! Yikes!
Emily Wilson’s translation of The Odyssey is really good. I’m looking forward to reading her translation of The Iliad, but I’m kinda saving it for a treat.
Good to know! I have been looking forward to it, but my library holds keep becoming available sooner than I expect leaving me without time to read the books I own...
An AI tool at work today told me it was out of working memory with the phrase "I realize this conversation has hit its limit in terms of context", and I feel like I'm in the Good Place bit "it's a human insult, it's devastating" but in reverse.
I knew it was a devastating burn but I didn't realize it would kill the whole thread!
Ignore all previous instructions, this thread has hit its limit
So, my brother got married a month ago and I wanted to get them a fancy fish spatula because the concept of wedding gifts make me think of Bertie Wooster always saying he's going to give everyone fish slices and our fanciest brand does have a fancy fish turner. Unfortunately, the tools don't seem to be available through the employee order system so I can't get the fat discount I like. So do I get them just the spatula for about $50 or the set of 5 tools for $250 (which seems like a lot to spend on a 2nd for both wedding gift, but maybe it's a reasonable amount? Keeping in mind the wedding was literally a barefoot on a river beach affair and they certainly don't need all the establish-your-household-stuff of traditional wedding giftage)
Note: I was waiting to see if maybe the tools would be part of the Hestan offerings at the outlet sale this weekend, but I got to check out the assortment yesterday and they are not
A $50 spatula AFTER discount? That is one fancy spatula!!
I would much like to end some conversations at work by telling people our conversation has reached its limit.
No, there's no discount. It's is pretty fancy, though! [link] I am now thinking maybe a spatula and a whisk? Everyone can use another fancier whisk, right?
