I just had so little sympathy for any of the men in the Odyssey other than the random soldiers who were just screwed by their commanders. Geez.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I actually got a copy of Emily Wilson's translation as an audiobook, probably thinking I'd listen to it before the movie came out but I haven't and I've got so many other books in the queue there's no telling when I'll get to it. Maybe I'll download it just in case I find myself ready to take it up.

The status is NOT quo.

I taught The Odyssey from beginning to end (Fagles' translation) for many years, and I'm looking forward to seeing the movie. Odysseus is an ass, but it's a good story. Currently I am at USD with some yearbook students for yearbook camp. They are the sweetest little group of girls, so lowkey and easy, but we are sleeping in dorm rooms with no AC, and the temps are hot and humid — MUCH worse than San Diego's usual temperate breezes and low humidity. DYING already. I was smart and brought a little fan this year, though, so I should be able to sleep. Still. Summer!Kristin isn't a fan of four days of unpaid work even though I know it's going to be worth it.

Also, hi! I pop on and ready from time-to-time but have mostly been lurking. I'll try to catch up later tonight.

"Somewhere in this building is our talent." Toby Ziegler, my spirit animal

Obviously, I understand the two-sides-of-perception thing. I think I'd like to captivate someone without doing very much, but that doesn't happen! Not to me, anyway.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

I had a little incident last night . I was peeling a rather skinny carrot and managed to get my thumb with the peeler. I am a danger to myself once again.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

Unpaid work is no fun but especially not without a/c!! Yikes!

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Emily Wilson’s translation of The Odyssey is really good. I’m looking forward to reading her translation of The Iliad, but I’m kinda saving it for a treat.

Good to know! I have been looking forward to it, but my library holds keep becoming available sooner than I expect leaving me without time to read the books I own...

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

An AI tool at work today told me it was out of working memory with the phrase "I realize this conversation has hit its limit in terms of context", and I feel like I'm in the Good Place bit "it's a human insult, it's devastating" but in reverse.
