Spike: We got a history, him and me. Fred: What? Spike: It was a long time ago. He was a young Watcher, fresh out of the academy when we crossed paths. It was a, what-you-call battle of wills and blood was spilled. Vendettas were sworn. It was a whole-- Fred: My God you're so full of crap. Spike: Yeah. Okay.

We’re back from 18 days in the UK! I’m jet lagged, but managed to move Miss Erzabet No Biting from my lap long enough to unpack everything. There’s a lot of laundry in my future.

The trip was great, but sadly confirmed a suspicion that Mr. Loomycakes and I had: after a few days of eating food that wasn’t from the US, my inflammation and general pain levels dropped. And it wasn’t like I was eating healthier, because my meals included a lot of black pudding, eggs, and scones with clotted cream and jam.

Our wings are not tired.

Rest up from the jet lag. Good to have confirmation of the possible sources of inflammation.

The orange blight once again trying to make it all about him at the World Cup. When will this end?

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Bodies are weird, and 50% of the time I feel like a 13-year-old going "DO NOT PERCEIVE ME!" and the other 50% of the time I feel like "Tell me my ass looks good or I will set the dogs on you."

Brilliant as always.

I like to say "I want to be pretty and I don't want it to matter." This is substantially demure in comparison.

Truth. And these days, I am in 13 y.o. mode.

At this age, I am at the don't care at all what you think of my body stage; I just want to be able to move about with ease and no pain. Also, it is hot outside so I am going sleeveless no matter if my flab arms offend you. I'm good with this. Still, delighted when I'm told I look good.

Grown-up princess party is a genius idea and I'm glad y'all enjoyed it! The pictures on FB are delightful

I am all about not being perceived.

Considering going to see the Odyssey and realizing I don't think I've read it. Like, not the whole thing, just excerpts and probably summaries and all the references and explanations of references so it certainly feels like I know it. I had read the Iliad not too long before Troy came out so I was ready to have opinions.

I never got through the Odyssey ages ago when I tried. I don't think it mattered to enjoying the movie. The subject was still familiar enough. My only super silly complaint was that Matt Damon's face was far too smooth for the journey taken.

I haven't trusted science since I saw the film "Flubber."

The Odyssey is much less fun than The Iliad, IMO. I'd rather have patience with Achilles and his angst than Odysseus and his drama.

I just had so little sympathy for any of the men in the Odyssey other than the random soldiers who were just screwed by their commanders. Geez.

I actually got a copy of Emily Wilson's translation as an audiobook, probably thinking I'd listen to it before the movie came out but I haven't and I've got so many other books in the queue there's no telling when I'll get to it. Maybe I'll download it just in case I find myself ready to take it up.
