That is a remarkably sucky PTO policy indeed unless they also like, close for a week at Christmas and in the summer or something.
Yeah, that's what my company does, except they frame it as three weeks! Which you can use for either sick leave or PTO. And sucks for you if you get sick, I guess. I get another week next August, at least.
That's our basically our starting PTO for new hires, 2 weeks vacation + 8 days sick and 2 (I think) floating holidays. You get another week at 5 years and another on top of that at 10, so I now get 4 weeks a year which is nice. Still working out how I can take full advantage of that.
I get three weeks PTO at my new job, plus 8 holidays, plus a shutdown between Xmas and New Year's. I don't know if the latter is paid and I don't even care! I've only had one week PTO and four holidays for the last three years, and it all went to family stuff for the most part. After a year I get four weeks.
Yeah one of the reasons I don’t really want to look for a new job is that my current one I now get 27 days of PTO, plus I think 3 floating holidays? We don’t get much in the way of regular holidays (nothing between new years and Memorial Day) but still.
Nothing between New Year's and Memorial Day?! That's a long time! I'm aggravated to get no holidays between July 4th and Labor Day, I think that's my longest stretch.
It’s fully remote, Jen! They are a Baltimore based company and do have an office address downtown but I don’t know when/if I’ll have to go in. There are a lot of unanswered questions!!
Oh and they have federal holidays off and get another one the owner decides what to do with. This year it’s July 5. I’m starting July 1 so that makes a nice short first week for me.
You are taking it then? I wasn't sure. Congratulations!
