Congratulations to the class of 1999. You all proved more or less adequate.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

You are taking it then? I wasn't sure. Congratulations!

Fully remote with a nearby location you might go to sounds pretty good!

Thrive to spite them

Dad is in the hospital. It's a good thing he didn't try to come up. After his colonoscopies they said to watch for bleeding that might happen 7-10 days after and sure enough on day 10 he had really bad bleeding. But he went to the ER right away. They had to do a blood transfusion and another colonoscopy (I think) and repaired the issue. It was a blood clot that I guess kept things from healing correctly. He will be in the hospital for a few more days for observation while they reintroduce foods. He has been on a clear liquid diet but today he was going to get to have actual soup. Not just broth.

There is no cancer or anything. But it was worrying waiting for the details.

Apparently Dad has seriously considered driving up for Father's Day/my birthday weekend but decided to follow the doctors advice and it's really good because this would have happened when he was driving or when he was up here and neither of those are great options

Why isn't everyone pelting me with JOY, dammit? - Zenkitty

Thanks everyone! I slept in a bit, then made a detour to my favorite sandwich place on my way to the train station. Grabbed a sandwich to eat on the train up to Orange County, went to dinner with my cousin and her daughter and SIL. Then we've just been chilling on the couch while I watched a couple of eps of GBBO - she's never seen it before! So, low-key, very pleasant day!

OK, I come to pat myself on the back -- we just went to breakfast, because it's so hot, I figured morning would be my only outing.

I came home and tidied up the dining room and kitchen, and THEN I broke down a mountain of cardboard boxes for recycling. Like, months' worth. I feel slightly bad about not.passing them along, but, honestly, a lot of them were not reusable, and OMG it's so pleasant to have that corner of the dining room clear again.

(It sounds worse than it was -- a dining room 1/4 full of cardboard -- the room is large and basically empty except for our high table that is collapsed down to a generous four-seating but can be expanded to eight. But it was a big job, so I am gold starring myself!)

I have heretofore sucked at making lovely spaces for myself the way, say, Allyson, Aimee, Hec & JZ, and so many more of you have demonstrated over the years.

But at least I killed it with industriousness this morning!
