Happy birthday, javachik! And Dylan!
It is also my uncle's birthday and my parents' 60th anniversary today. We had a big party for their 50th but no one was up for trying to organize anything for this one. I think my uncle still resents his sister getting married on his birthday a little, but it was the only day they both had off from work and could get the church, so.
We are at the Fairfield Inn near JFK.

Happy birthday javachik!
Yes, Dylan is 17 today! We spent close to 2 hours at the bank opening a High School account for him because for some ungodly reason this isn't something you can do online. So we waited for 2 hours while a very junior banker repeatedly failed to enter our personal information into HER computer so we could look at it over her shoulder and nod.
Dad is going to be in the hospital for at least a few more days. The head nurse and the hospital chaplain (“Nice guy, for a G-D pusher”, said Dad) told Dad that “it won’t be necessary”, but that he needed to talk to me about his wishes about DNR and heroic measures.
When I’m back home, I am probably going to fall apart.
Falling apart at home sounds like a good plan.
As someone who works in a hospital, I strongly encourage all of you to talk to your families and make whatever written plan is appropriate in your locality about DNR and heroic measure.
Atropa, that sounds like an entirely appropriate plan. With ice cream.
Timelies all!
Happy Birthday javachik!
Yesterday, Mr. S comes over to me and says "I found this under your bed". It was the credit card I couldn't find. How and why it got under my bed is anyone's guess. I had already canceled it, so I cut it up.

Zenni! Sorry, just skimmed about a week of posts but happened to see that question, and we love Zenni for glasses. All my current pairs, regular and sunglasses, are from there.
Hi, all. We've come to the end of a beautiful, but hard, week in Connecticut as I hosted a celebration of life for my dad last Sunday (with the help of my amazing family) and scattered the second half of his ashes at sea yesterday. There were many lovely moments, and the celebration was everything I wanted it to be. About 60 people total came, including family, friends, former colleagues, and former students (one came from Virginia because my dad changed his life 50 years ago; he made me cry). So touched by Buffista representation: Vortex, javachik, Laura and DH all came for the celebration. Wednesday, we drove out to spend the night at javachik's beautiful new home and love on the Snarflebutts, which was wonderful. Loved spending time with my mom, cousin L, and Uncle B, too. It was a heavy week, but a beautiful and poignant one.
So now...vacation! We fly out to Ireland tomorrow from JFK for a 10-day road trip, during which our goal is going to be to try to disconnect from the stress of the past year and enjoy each other's company. Really looking forward to exploring part of Ireland we've never visited before (Limerick, Killarney and the Ring of Kerry, Galway, and Clifden) and then drive across the country to spend three nights with ND's family, who we love to bits, before flying back home.
The only bummer is that the condo fell out of escrow last week because the buyer's cash offer fell through due to some business loan. I'm trying to stay positive and remind myself that credit card debt on this trip will be erased once it sells, and I'm sure it will sell eventually. Quick, easy, asking price sales and closing-ma would be appreciated.
Much love to all who need it. I'll go back and read more carefully shortly.

I had the same thought!

My latest glasses came from Pair Eyewear and I'm loving changing the frames all the time.
