Such a contrast to last year! Similar not sleepiness, opposite vibe

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
The turnout numbers were incredible. Double from the last NTC mayoral contest. Also huge turnout in the other races. We had no election here. It was a fun night!
My only hope is that the sheep will realize that Trump's endorsements mean nothing. I get that they have other reasons to fear his wrath, but being primaried isn't one of them. Who would have thought that MTG would be the one GOP Rep. to point out that her fellows were weak?
Fuck yeah, Virginia. I can't wait to be represented by Dems again.
Zohran Mamdani: Excellent for New York City; awful for my insomnia.
I took the rest of the week off from work! Today, I’m celebrating the victory of Democratic Socialism to visiting a monument to Oligarchic Capitalism.
If Mamdani can pull off any of this we'll be much better off. Its certainly a sea change I appreciate! If we manage to have actual elections next year they could go very well indeed.
I was at the Frick a few weeks ago! Several rooms are basically as they were and I spent the whole time in them going "this was this guy's house !"
Good plan, Tom (aside from the insomnia part, I hope you can get away from that)
We have an atmospheric river sweeping through today. I very much want to curl up in a blanket and drink tea and read What Stalks the Deep and be happy I don’t have to go outside but stupid work keeps expecting me to do work.
Completely unrelated to anything - I impulse bought 4 different apples at the grocery store yesterday and I'm having an Envy today for breakfast. They lured me in partly because they were attractively displayed just as I walked in the door but probably largely because I have been reading Chuck Wendig's apple reviews, so I went to find his review of the Envy and I can't find one. Alas!
I got some interestingly named apples at the coop the other day and now I want to have another apple battle.
Still waiting to see if all the procrastinators like me voted for the mayoral candidate who is not in the lead. Weirdly all the other progressive candidates are well ahead, but she is not. So we’ll see if she catches up or not (entirely possible, but also might not?)
Changed my tag, not that anti-fascism ever stopped being my vibe.(It's totally an ethos.) wrote a new profile, too. (Not that there are new people anymore, but the old one had kind of gone from "pleasantly nostalgic" to "Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer" so, you know, in case.
My FB memories were a dueling rollercoaster charting the 2020 and 2024 elections, which was exhausting.
But surveying the election results this morning was cheering. I'm checking my hopes on the midterms just because I think Trump will have a year to try to ratfuck the election but there does seem to be an effective strategy now to pin anti-Trump with pocketbook pragmatism.
Also, big surprise, all the Latino voters who went for Trump are not fans for ICE raids.
The best part about the Mamdani's election was the turnout by young voters, who were unenthused by by the Dem gerontocracy.
I think Newsom's aggressive turn towards countering GOP disenfranchisement also was welcomed as people were frustrated by Dems "playing fair" and getting stabbed repeatedly in the back.
In both cases, it's a turn away from Dems trying to appeal to political norms. In all the wins, there was a focus on practical issues.
I really want to see a Dem platform that runs on: eliminating the Electoral college, and expanding the Supreme Court and aggressively taxing billionaires.
