I was at a fan convention this weekend eith two friends. There was a Saturday night party but in the past it was like $40, and didn’t start until 10pm, and we figured indoors with covid wouldn’t be great (the conference was masked and vaxxed, but when people are drinking and dancing?). So we put pajamas on and watched great British bake-off…and then my one friend realized it was both outside and free. So we rallied and went out at 11pm!! We felt so unlike our usual crotchety old selves

Natter 77: I miss my friends. I miss my enemies. I miss the people I talked to every day.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
You got redressed and went out at 11 pm?!?? That is almost midnight and jammies are comfy.
The past two weeks, I’ve been very old. Early dinner, early bed, lots of things I’m happy to complain about.
I really am looking forward for this to get better. It’s long Covid, pet issues, changing schedules and roles at work and just depression. Making steps though.
Yes we were very shocked we made it out. I mean granted my friends are 10 years younger than me but still! Tomorrow may be a bit rough, since we had to get up pretty early I’m exhausted. But gotta do some stuff before I can crawl into bed (like get home and then go get my dog!). Just landed.

Right the fuck on! Well done on rallying! Full points!
JZ, I know you’ve been signal boosting and trying to keep getting fresh, local eyes on Lauren Cho’s disappearance. They have found unidentified human remains very close to where she disappeared in Yucca valley.

Oh, shit. Poor young woman. Her poor family. Goddamnit.
eta: And I hate that it took the highly publicized domestic-violence murder of a young white woman to draw enough attention to Ms. Cho's and other cases that they might actually be solved and their beloveds find some kind of closure. And I hate that that other young woman was so utterly failed by the officers who came to investigate a complaint just before her fiance killed her, and I just want to swaddle Matilda and all her friends in bubble wrap and hide them from the outside world forever, but of course that can't and shouldn't happen. They all deserve the whole wide world and not an inch less.
This is a difficult area to find missing people but it’s unconscionable that they barely even looked. And they didn’t look for Lauren appropriately. Awful.
Even when full resources are deployed, it took 18 months to find a missing Canadian who disappeared off of a very popular hike in summer 2018. His death was eventually determined to be accidental.
I hope a lot of you have today off.
Happy Thanksgiving weekend, Canadians.
Posting here because I can't on FB and I need to empty my brain.
I went to Queens this weekend for a fast birthday weekend for my best friends from college (it's one of their birthdays). Sat morning before I was leaving the birthday girl called me to say she was not feeling well and might cancel dinner. I decided I would still come because seeing her and other friend still worth it and hanging time is really the best time. plus dog coverage was already set up.
drive up no issues. during the drive, she indeed cancelled dinner. she had been sick for going on 12 hours by this point.
Now this friend had leukemia in her 20s and has been living with and getting treatment for metastasized colon cancer for over a decade. Last Fall she had acute appendicitis and needed emergency surgery, after which they discovered an previous unseen tumor which led to another round of chemo.
Which is all to say: ANY illness is a huge deal. Anything needing medical attention means going to Sloan Kettering. Because she is a long term ongoing treatment complex patient, she has to be seen by HER doctors. Being sick on a Friday night of a Holiday weekend means she will get admitted to the Hospital for observation and tests and kept for days.
She was scared, her husband scared, her 14 year old son scared and no one knew what to do.
They ended up going to SK Urgent Care Sunday morning. She had a blockage in her intestine. As of last night she was still in the hospital. Scans being done and liquids being pushed, but she also had to get tubes down nose and mouth into her stomach.
I drove home last night, gps sent me not on I95, but on highways into PA and then down which at night meant none of the large 24 hour service centers, so I ended up not stopping for the 4 hour drive.
I'm emotionally drained. My poor friend. She is so tired of fighting with her body. She is terrified of dying.
FUCK CANCER
Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that, msbelle.
Oh that is so hard, msbelle. Sending loving thoughts to all her loved ones, and heath~ma to her.
