Jessica, you are not wrong! I've been doing a rewatch and WOW.
Today is our last day of vacation. Yesterday was spent with Bev and her good spouse (there was Leverage watching); today we will see my goddaughter and her family for the first time in four years. This was also a scouting mission for our next (and possibly last) home, since Bainbridge is doing its utmost to turn into Mercer Island West. I scored a first edition of Le Guin's Always Coming Home, with the cassette, for $12 at a bookstore in Anacortes, so it's currently my favorite.
but WOW the early 2000s had A Look, didn't they.
Ooh, I'm curious. What is the Look of the Early '00s?
The hair and the camera angles and the lighting and the pacing, all of it. This is a show Of Its Time.
If anyone is interested in Leverage you need to watch the original before watching the new series.
They aren't spending anytime catching people up.. even within the show.
I agree. The history is important. I haven't watched in a while, but can't wait to dive into the new so I didn't re-watch.
What is the Look of the Early '00s?
I don't know if I can describe it but it was instantly recognizable. Muted lighting/color palette. Men's hair was in a weird transitional phase. There's a focus on cutting edge technology in the exposition scenes that just screams "WE HAVE NO IDEA THE FIRST IPHONE WILL BE RELEASED NEXT WEEK." And the makeup of the team - exactly one Weird Girl, one Sexy Girl, one Black Guy - is either cringeingly or charmingly retro, depending on the scene.
Happy birthday, hippocampus!
Sorry about the mice, msbelle.
One of my coworkers was a bit of a grump. Turns out it was because she constantly felt poorly due to celiac (which took an unreasonable amount of time to diagnose). And we’re a super-bake-y department. Well, gluten free flour makes great shortbread. So when we were in the office, I made a fair bit of it, and the coworker is pretty smiley these days. Probably not just due to the shortbread, but I like to think it doesn’t hurt.
That’s so interesting, Jess! I haven’t gone back and watched Leverage since it was on and wouldn’t have guessed that there was A Look. That’s barely the past, much less retro!
20! Years! Counts as vintage.
Lalalala I can’t hear you
