Natter 77: I miss my friends. I miss my enemies. I miss the people I talked to every day.

I'm enjoying seeing all the Skyline connections - it's like a flashback episode where it is revealed that all our main characters had prior proximity no one knew about
I know I've taken a handful of visiting Buffistas there.
They won't do it until you're 50. My husband definitely felt ill from it both times, but it has to be better than shingles, from what I hear.
That's why I'm getting it as soon as I turn 50 (which, Jesus Christ, is just about 6 months away).
I remember him saying the doctor told him he was lucky it didn't get into his eyes - he'd be blind.
We have 2 friends who got shingles in their eye -- one recovered fairly easily, although while he had them, they were horrific; the other didn't lose his sight, but had to stay in completely dark rooms for 6 months (maybe longer), and had a long recovery after that. Shingles is FUCKED UP. (That's a medical term.) (I'm a medical editor; you can trust me.)
My mother is embarrassed about how mild her case of shingles was. Actually, this is probably connected to her lack of covid fear -- she really has never been sick as an adult, ever mind a 75-year-old.

Yes!!
Is the shingles vaccine a 2-dose thing? Ugh.
dcp already answered, but yeah. I will say, I did not have any reaction to the first dose, so, yay. As far as I know, I've never had any kind of negative reaction to a vaccine, and I am vigorously knocking on wood right now. Now I want to know how often I need the shingles vaccine, so I will go look at dcp's link.
Also now, I would like to eat some Skyline chili. Considering that I haven't even thought about dinner, maybe I should so some googling..
OK, looks like CDC says every five years. I can do that.
My ex called the other day to tell me he has shingles, and it's all grouped around eye. The doctor told him he needs to follow up with the eye doctor for that reason, although he didn't see evidence it was *in* his eye.
He also said it's very common to get them there, which, yikes. I'm getting my first dose of the vaccine asap.
Shingles- Do Not Want.
I am having the boring zoom moderation again. TIme for more crochet, I guess. As soon as I get on the internet, someone has dropped out of their breakout room and I have to pop them back in.
I guess I could just go in to a breakout room and listen....
No Skyline for Jen. There used to be one right here in VA, but apparently not anymore. Or, at least a place that served Cincinnati-style chili, but I'm 99.9% sure it was a Skyline.
Yikes, Amy. Hope the ex's eyes stay OK.
I lived in Cincinnati and never went to Skyline.
One of my friends, an extroverted single woman, was at the beach and saw a sign advertising SINGLES SHOTS and was like "Hell yes sign me up!" but when she got to the sign it was out in front of a CVS and had an H in it. (Having seen my DH go through shingles I was like "you should have gone in anyway!")
I still have never finished my Hep B shots, or whichever hepatitis it is that was 3 shots. I think Hep C was the gamma globulin golfball in the buttcheek; that was fun. In short: single shot yes please.
Yikes, Amy. Hope the ex's eyes stay OK.
He said it doesn't really hurt? But he's weird.
gamma globulin golfball in the buttcheek
Yes. I remember those. Not fondly.
The yellow fever inoculation put 10-year old me in bed for two days. But at least I didn't have to take another one. I was back in the US full-time before the 10-year period expired.
