So, I had plans yesterday afternoon to get together with Emmett's best friend, Joey, who is working as a student teacher at Matilda's old elementary school. I'd already gotten together with him a couple weeks ago for burritos, but I had promised to treat him to after work drinks.
I was scheduled to meet him at 4pm in front of Amoeba, so I was trotting out the door at 3:52, and ran smack into Emmett, and his girlfriend Kalena, with Joey in tow! Surprise!
We collected Matilda and I took them all out to Alembic where we sat outside in the restaurant parklet, and I treated them to the world's best polenta fries with a delicious chimichurri sauce, Scotch Egg, Burgers, salads and super fancy cocktails. Since Emmett, Kalena and Joey had all been counselors at Matilda's away camp, they all had plenty to talk about and it was a raucous, laughy, super fun time. A great pleasure.
Today is second shot day! Yaaaay!
Yesterday I realized that all my friends will be vaccinated and the sensible sort to still wear masks, which means come late August we can hit the craft stores for the early THREAT LEVEL: PUMPKIN expedition.
That sounds scary, Cindy. I hope they figure out the issue is and can fix it relatively easily.
Thanks everyone. I feel overwhelmed by it, and then by everything in the news. I would like to sign up for a medically induced coma, please.
JZ just took Matilda to get her drive-through vax.
Oh, yay!
Happy anniversary, David and Jaqueline!
Happy anniversary, David and Jaqueline!
Thank you! I just made her a salmon fillet with sauteed leeks, and a spot of lemon asparagus pesto.
And a martini.
It's too cold and grey out to go eating outdoors tonight.
Cindy, I'm so sorry you and your son are dealing with this. I wish you good and long-term solutions that your insurance will cover.
Happy Anniversary, Zmayhem! Here's to many more!
Happy anniversary, David and JZ! I also feel compelled to tell you that I just made Brocco Tacos for dinner, and they were fucking delicious.
My favorite bar in Salt Lake is getting ready to reopen and I want to go to there and give them all my moneys
Oh amyparker, I was inspired to write a note to them on their contact page thanking them for taking their patrons' and staff's health seriously and Mark Alston wrote back the sweetest response. "Thank you very much for your supportive words. It would be hard to express how much they are appreciated right now."
Made me feel good about writing. I've been doing a lot more of that lately, including writing to 7-11 corporate over the totally unmasked food handling staff in Fort Myers that made me turn around and walk out. That was before the recent CDC change. They responded with a case # that they were investigating. Yeah, I don't expect to hear more.
Now I want Brocco Tacos for dinner.
