Toddson! Jesus, how scary!

I've been called once, and I reported, but I just sat in the room all day. I'm all registered and licensed and stuff, but... only ever been called once.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

I've been called twice to jury duty, once in NC, once here. Didn't end up on the jury either time, though the one here was close(I was the first person after the alternates, I think).

Meanwhile today was not a great day. I was teleworking, which turned out to be a good thing as our nanny was sick. I ended up sitting in his room during one class which he wasn't paying much attention to. Later I ended up going outside with him, and of course he had to go to the playground that's a mile away. He ended up running far ahead of me on our way home(I was taking his bicycle back) and locking the front door on me. Sigh...

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Look at all those summer pictures with nary a winter picture to be had of what frequently is a frozen hellscape of the Lake they call Michigan.

Or as I call it, good skiing weather.

I only served on a jury once. It was a shoplifting case with a black defendant. The security footage made it clear she was innocent, but there were two white jurors who wanted to vote guilty because she “just looked guilty” (i.e., black). Everyone on the innocent side was salaried and happy to come back the next day to discuss it further. The two on the guilty side were hourly and losing money with every minute they spent on the jury. So they gave in. And so the course of a person’s future was decided. I believe in trial by jury, but justice shouldn’t depend on the overlap of racist and insecure income.

Had my performance review. I got "strongly exceeds" which is very good. I know I put the work in, but it's weird getting the rating when I feel like I've been languishing the last few weeks. Which was directly after a 7-day On Call rotation. Hmm. Okay, that journey into impostor syndrome was brief.

Just put my vaccine card into my wallet! Heading to Walgreens shortly.

Thrive to spite them

I've been called for jury duty 2x both in Tallahassee. The first time I was selected but there was a plea deal. Which was probably the best outcome for the defendant since his attorney wasn't well prepared for jury selection and the judge admonished him about something.

The 2nd time I wasn't selected. I had put on the paperwork that I wasn't related to anyone who was in law enforcement or a lawyer and had forgotten about my uncle. I was asked about it and just completely blanked on him . I never thought of him as my uncle the lawyer just my uncle...who oh yeah was a lawyer.

Jim just used the phrase "I'm completely aligned on this" in a meeting. I am going downstairs for the flamethrower.

Run, run Jim! The collective has infiltrated your language!

(I just said "We need to scale that board to spotlight wins that are low lift" in a meeting, and I feel unclean.)

I feel slightly better now, because in a different meeting one of my project managers said, "She'll rewrite the strings in LOLCat if you make her annoyed". They're learning.

strongly exceeds, shrift? Dang, that's awesome!!

management knew that one of their workers was using his master key to go into apartments where single women lived and rape them. He tried my apartment, but I had the chain on, so he never got in. And I didn't know about it, because building management didn't warn any of the tenants. And, yes, the case ended up setting a precedent for what management companies owe their tenants.

Holy CRAP Toddson, that's hella scary and infuriating!!

I served on a jury once in DC, for a couple weeks, and it ended up a hung jury, there were two defendants and we went 11-1 guilty for the one, and 9-3 not guilty for the other. Very weird elaborate story.

I hesitate to say I'm surprised I've only been called once in Seattle, because I figure that means I'll be called tomorrow and end up on a case that's just long enough to make work impossible--a couple days I could handle, but a couple weeks would be a wreck.
