Yikes. And with all that crazy pipe bursting stuff it’s not like you can even feel ok getting out of town or something (which I remember my parents doing once when an ice storm hit and we weren’t going to have power for three days—after a day, as soon as you could drive again, they packed us up and headed out of town to a friend’s with power), even before you think of COVID and who you could crash with
Natter 77: I miss my friends. I miss my enemies. I miss the people I talked to every day.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I have my sense of smell back! (Lost it with Covid.) I knew my sense of smell was gone when I couldn't smell the Yankee Candle, even when I put my face up close (unlit candle!) and took a big sniff. So when I realized I could smell my coffee this morning, I sniffed the Yankee Candle, and it was a full-on olfactory assault.
So now my sniffer works.
Excellent.
Had a brief scare that something had broken and we were going to have to turn off water, but it seemed to be a weird fluke. So far, so good. We did talk to a plumber who gave a couple of recommendations, including turning the water off when we go to bed.
I got "lucky" when my pipes burst a few years ago because the gushing water shorted out the well pump and cut itself off. When we flipped the breaker back on it was an instant furious waterfall. I wasn't expecting the force of it.
Psst! Gudanov is Willy Wonka - pass it on
I was just about to ask about Gud again. Is this in reference to something?
OK, yay for vaccination, power returning, and sense of smell being back. Those were good morning reads.
Back at the vaccine clinic this morning for more volunteering. A little bummed I had to show up at 615 in order to then sit here for 45 minutes. But at least this morning I don’t need training. Didn’t have to get up AS early this morning because doggo is with a different friend until she drops him at daycare.
What do you/does one do there, meara?
Really yucky weather in Baltimore. Doesn’t look like much accumulation, but freezing rain is coming down fairly hard. I tried sweeping the snow off the bit of driveway out my side door and that was a hard nope ( this is how I gauge snow vs ice and wetness of snow).
Work is canceled. Now I spend all day worrying about people in Texas. One set of cousins in Austin have power but no water and have taken in a friend with no electricity. I’m going to reach out to the others there today. Mac seems to be fine, but I am going to reach out to f try rinds around to line up a place for him should he lose power/heat.
One set of friends had a pipe burst in the ceiling and a section of drywall fell into their living room. Another had all the pvc for their pool system bust. It’s really criminal how they let the electric grid go. And asshole Cruz flew his family to Cancun for vacation.
