On a different subject, I was watching a video about Chernobyl - the wildlife is coming back and seems healthy; most of the people remaining there - who refused to be evacuated - are old women. The Babushkas are sticking it out and seem to be doing all right.

Natter 77: I miss my friends. I miss my enemies. I miss the people I talked to every day.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Rush Limbaugh has died. Wish I could say I didn't let out a little whoop.
Same here. My sister called to let me know since our brother has tortured us with listening to his bullshit in the car for years. He won't be missed. He did a lot of damage in his life.
Good/bad news at the home front. The crew removed an ancient pony tail palm from my front lawn. I did threaten to chain myself to the tree. It was growing into the foundation so really had to go. The only good part is that my view from my usual spot in the living room now has an expanded lake view, and that is nice.
Took a quick trip to the PBC zoo this morning to give my DIL a family membership for her birthday today. She had told me they were going to the zoo today as my son took off the day from work to spend time with her. She is excited about the membership as she went to every zoo in Florida when she was a kid on their family membership. It is a really good deal. Also, posted a cutie patootie picture of Jonathan in his zoo day sandals, not that he even rolls over much less walks yet. He'll figure out how to kick them off soon if he is any grandchild of mine.
What I'm hearing is that I should get some backup kettles, or I'll have to face God and walk backwards into hell while clutching bean juice.
Rush Limbaugh has died. Wish I could say I didn't let out a little whoop.
My first thought was that there will be lots of fanfare in Hell to greet the new arrival.
I think you are getting the appropriate message, shrift
I got myself a collapsible kettle a while back ostensibly for travel (in case I am going somewhere that won't have hot water but will have electricity, I don't know where that might be and I do not, at this point, go anywhere at all, so) but have decided it is nice to have an emergency kettle that doesn't take up much space. Just in case.
When we were living with S.'s dad in upstate NY, Rush was on all. freaking. day., every. day. I'm not exactly grieving either.
Oh, Amy, I would not have handled that well.
Oof, I would not have dealt well with that either, Amy. Kudos for surviving with, like, zero homicide convictions. I'm assuming.
I love my electric tea kettle, and I did recently get a stovetop little cast iron tea kettle when my DH was having a tea phase. He's not in it anymore, but I love the little pot. Tea is fine if I don't have coffee, though. Or hot cocoa. I have to drink decaf for reasons, so the caffeine component is no more for me. And I like tea and hot cocoa independently of backup status.
There was no choice. That was a Fox News 24/7 household. ::shudders:: I pretty much lived in our bedroom every minute possible.
I love my electric kettle. But I also love knowing I could make a cup of tea with a saucepan on the stovetop if I had to.
I'm having a "would not wish anyone dead, but would read certain obituaries with great interest" response to the news of Limbaugh's death.
Yes, shrift, you need a backup kettle. I love my electric, and I have a cast iron kettle that can go on the camp stove on the balcony in a blackout. After five years (OMG) on Bainbridge, Jim has stopped arguing with me about the wood stove and generator I've put on the list for our house.
