I despair that SFUSD is going to punt until September.
Unfortunately, I think you're right. It's beyond frustrating.
re: gluten free spongecake - I would do a mix: 1 to 1.5 parts high-quality 1:1 gluten free flour like Bob's or King Arthur to 1 part almond flour. You might need more tapioca starch or xanthan gum to get the lift you'd be looking for, but the texture would be close.
Meanwhile, all the smaller districts around us have already vaccinated all faculty and staff (first dose) and will open a week after the second dose.
Damn, that's impressive!
Ugh, puppy is home and just constantly crying/whining since he got home. They said it's normal and he may do it all night (!!!!) and it's driving me nuts, I feel so so bad, poor baby does NOT understand.
my son's grades went up a full level and the time to do homework dropped by 2 hours/day when we set him up on my dual large monitors rather than the 11" laptop from the school
Ooh, if I gave my 2nd monitor to my son I could upgrade to a REALLY BIG 2nd monitor for myself. (I got mine in March when Bezos was still being cheap about WFH expenses. The expense limits are much nicer now...)

Thanks! Xanthum gum procured.
We are maybe going back in person two days a week as of February 15, or maybe as of March. To go back in person at our school, though, they had to decide that six feet of distance wasn't really the recommendation, and that three feet would actually be fine, because the school is very crowded. Also, at 100% virtual the kids have 210 minutes a week of direct instruction for each class, and in person will reduce that to 135 minutes a week. And the AP classes, or anyone else trying to get through a curriculum, will just have to do their best. They are starting to vaccinate teachers Thursday, but the first people to get shots are the ones going back Feb. 1, which is... three days after their first shot...
Anyway, I ordered good masks and bigger shoes (for the 14 year old) online, and we'll see. Our goal is survival, and graduation for the senior.
and graduation for the senior.
Is the senior planning on college or a gap year or something else altogether?
The senior is not currently in a headspace to make plans. My goal is to get to graduation. We’re working on the headspace part. With a headspace professional.
Oh my gosh. Puppy has been crying (despite painkiller) since 2pm—seven hours of this. His breeder saw me post on Instagram and drove over here 30 minutes to bring me a sedative for him. Which should be such a relief tonight. He just took it—fingers crossed we can go to bed soon!

Gotcha. Right now I'm reflecting on Emmett's experience and looking at this year and thinking about how to finesse a gap year for Matilda.
