Jayne: Captain, can you stop her from bein' cheerful, please? Mal: I don't believe there is a power in the 'verse that can stop Kaylee from being cheerful. Sometimes you just wanna duct tape her mouth and dump her in the hold for a month.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I am eating leftovers right now AIFG!

I am going to cheat and make more leftovers. Which is to say, I took advantage of the brief, annual appearance of Turkey parts at Whole Foods to nab some turkey thighs with which I will make one of Emmett's all-time favorite dishes [goes to check French translation...]: Coq d'Inde au Cognac et Cidre.

Trying to figure out what to do with my umami stock. Maybe ramen, maybe more of a French onion thing. Maybe leaning towards Italian wedding soup. Hmmm....

Having ramen for lunch, coincidentally.

My folks were unable to find turkey parts at Whole Foods and had to go to Safeway (one particular Safeway) and even there found no drumsticks, only thighs and wings. We didn't cook the wings. I meant to swing by my local Safeway where I saw whole cooked turkeys for $20 the day after Thanksgiving one year, but I forgot. Oh well, I don't need a whole turkey anyway.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I guestimated pretty well for the number of diners and likely appetites on Thanksgiving. Some leftovers went away with the guests, and the rest are nearly done, except for the remains of the cornish hens. That meat went into a chicken and vegetable pie that I'll be eating on for the next several days. The chocolate pie from last week is long gone.

Hec, sounds good. Wish I could beam in with what's left of a surprisingly nice bottle of wine my dad gave us last Xmas.(I say surprisingly, both because he doesn't smell well, and because he's been known to give ten dollars for wine and expect change. )

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I love not doing any work for Thanksgiving, but do miss having leftovers. Although my mother brought turkey to our church potluck last Sunday, so I did have some turkey soup courtesy of her leftovers.

I turn 70 in February

Holy crap, Laura! Good for you, that sounds like a good plan.

First day at new job. Now with an office instead of a cubicle. It’s all very exciting.

Congrats, msbelle!!

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

so maybe I'll make some "leftovers" today.

I was just talking about making some leftovers.

We only brought back the little bit of creamy mushroom not croustades which is about to be turkey tetrazzini.

And the host gave me the carcass of the cooked upside down bird so I have a vat of bone broth. Plus! The meat was still tender (shredded but still crazy tasty) even after brothing!

The upside bird was seriously good at the time and also as leftovers. I think I need to experiment with cooking one that way. But flipping at the end for browned skin.

the hardest to learn / was the least complicated

Here's one of my nitpicks with the way that word choices matter: I have an OB/GYN appointment this Thursday, November 30. Today, I get a letter saying that my OB/GYN is retiring as of November 30. Does "as of" mean that any patients scheduled that day are out of luck, or does it mean "November 30 is the last day she will see patients"? Bonus follow-up question: if it means "November 30 is the last day she will see patients," how fucking hard is it for you, Giant Corporate Medical Group, to just SAY IT THAT WAY???

I had to call them to be sure I still had an appointment. (I do.) (It's for an issue that could have easily been addressed via email ["hey can we change from medication A to medication B, as we discussed 2 months ago?"], but my OB/GYN hasn't answered three (3) emails from me about it, which has me super angry. I was planning to ask her why the fuck she doesn't answer emails, but since she's retiring, I guess it doesn't matter. I sure hope whoever inherits her patients answers their emails.) (Well, no. I hope I don't need to email my OB/GYN, whoever that may be, for anything again.)

Your gynecologist shouldn't(mostly) be the one that screws you.
