Because books.

Off topic, but thinking about how long David and JZ were together before they were married made me wonder exactly how old we are, as a community. Maybe it would be easier to note the birth of this incarnation of the board?

Punishingly Intricate

I hope that’s the way it is, Nilly.

I’m so glad JZ has that Sacred Circle of Loving Women to be there for her girl now and for you, David. And I’m so sorry to hear about your sister.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

JZ's bestie Lisa came in and the mood shifted, and the Sacred Circle of Loving Women started drinking and crying and laughing and wearing Jacqueline's hats and...it's what we needed. It's what Matilda needed especially.

Very thankful that they were present to release that emotional pressure valve.

Christ, I can’t imagine dealing with death without laughter.

One of the joys of the days immediately after Dad passed away was telling his younger brother tales he hadn’t heard of the older siblings’ childhood shenanigans. Bricks and snakes were thrown, cats were rubbed with liniment, switch trees were chopped down and burned while their parents were gone for the day...

Our wings are not tired.

Maybe it would be easier to note the birth of this incarnation of the board?

Per the Nilly calendar - May 19, 1997 - founding of first Buffy board
September 17, 2002 - The Phoenix official birthday
June 10, 2003 - The big server move

edited a couple times for stuff

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

Christ, I can’t imagine dealing with death without laughter.

In the first two hours of my grandfather's Shiva we were subjected to an unprompted hour long lecture from a relative on the extermly fascinating subject, "aircraft evecuation protocols when one discovers smoke in the aircraft".

30 minutes in, when it was clear that he was not going to stop, I whispered to my sister "so you thought that the funeral was the difficult part?". Which some people heard, and they repeate this to me to this day.

But in all honesty, the man just wouldn't shut up.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

Shir, that's hilarious.

At my grandfather's funeral, as the minister or whatever he was droned on and extolled his virtues one of my aunts leaned over and whispered to the rest, "Are we sure he's talking about Dad?" and a quiet snicker was had.

(My maternal grandfather was a miserable SOB.)

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

Oh, that is hilarious too.

ION, Seska sends their condolences to David and all JZ's friends, and thinking of them.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Jacqueline was more than ready to go.

Lisa said that a few days ago when she was still responsive, Jacqueline woke up from one of her narcotic slumbers, looked around the room, focused on Lisa and said in exasperation, "...and I'm still here."

I know my own heart and understand my fellow man. But I am made unlike anyone I have ever met. I dare to say I am like no one in the whole world. - Anne Lister

And I'm one of those theists who goes around thinking, "Just wait until those atheists die and Jesus and Buddha show up with a six-pack of beer and say 'Hey, you didn't even believe and you were a pretty decent person anyway! Go you!' Ha ha! Won't those atheists be surprised, with the heaven and the beer! I will laugh!"

As an atheist, this type of sentiment is exactly why JZ was in the VERY small circle of believers I know who actually live by the good parts of religions. Bless her gigantic and generous heart.

Compassionately intolerant

I was thinking last night of things I can incorporate into my life to pay tribute to JZ, and I remembered that I have hats, including two cloches.

I've been wandering around this morning, thinking of ways to do the same. I have hats and vintage skirts and such, but the most persistent and inconvenient thing that keeps popping into my mind is that I simply must be more graceful with ignorant people on the internet.

The resistance is strong in this one, so I must be on the right track.

Bless her gigantic and generous heart.
Indeed.
