So, exploring the Roku Channel yesterday we discovered that Batman (60s TV version) was on there for free. So we introduced Matilda to the wonders of Campy Batman.
Things I had forgotten:
1) The Pilot features Frank Gorshin's The Riddler (arguably the most iconic of the TV show villains), and Jill St. John as his sidekick.
2) Yes, this is the one that has Jill in the Robin costume and Batman pining after her later.
3) It is also the episode where Batman does the Batusi! (cf., Pulp Fiction)
4) The highlight of the show's not-serious sense of humor was Batman warning Robin about "Pedestrian Safety!" and carefully pulling out a Bat-Hook to stick on the wall and hang a bit of iron grating they'd just lasered through.
5) Lasers were so new, Adam West pronounced it "Lay-zarr."
6) I had somehow forgotten that TV Batman's cowl is actually purple-ish rather than black. Also, his Bat-eyebrows (on the cowl) are Aqua. Yeah, go back and look at it. Aqua eyebrows.
7) TV Batmobile is so fucking rad. It really looks amazing. Never bettered.
8) Matilda thought the fight scene "Pow!" and "Zok!" elements amusing.
9) She thought the acting was much like 6th grade video projects.
10) I had sort of forgotten how much the animated Tick owes to Adam West's constant references to "Chum."
