Yay dishwasher! They are the best. I need to rinse because I don't run it more than once a week, basically.
ION, on 911 Lone Star, Gina Torres's character is dating her new minister, DB Woodside. Well, my church is going to be hiring a new minister, and this is just giving me IDEAS. (Although the odds my church would hire a straight man are pretty low.)
Oh that’s definitely how you get ants!
We pay for a private company to pick up our compost but it’s worth it. You can drop off at a place at the farmers market but I can’t stand the smell
But what about ants? Because around here that's how you get ants.
Nope. No ants. Except in winter if it's been exceptionally wet they'll try to come indoors but otherwise SF is relatively bug free.
Yah, we have no ant issues. But, I mean, I put the stuff right into the dishwasher. If it's in the sink, then, yeah, I'm soaking it or something.
I support having a dishwasher. I have heard they work better on dirty dishes but living alone I feel like if I put dirty dishes in there, by the time I run it, the food will be crusty and surely that’s harder to get off? I do probably need a new dishwasher soon, given that all my appliances are something like 17 years old. (I also should replace my water heater but what I really want is for someone else to figure it all out (calling places getting quotes reading reviews making appointment) and just have me pay for it.

Now that I think about it, this is the only place of the three I've lived in Seattle that's especially prone to ant issues. As insect infestations go, they're trivial, but still annoying.
As for dishwashers, the first place we lived after we got married didn't have one, and I swear buying a portable one a year or two later saved our marriage.
Fucking ants. They are all over my house, including the bedroom (where there is no food) and I have yet to figure out how to keep them away from my mouthguard (including hanging it from a goose-neck lamp and relocating it to the bathroom.)
Dishwasher was out second home improvement, after a dryer (which was significantly easier. Our counters are custon-for-a-short-Japanese-lady low, so we had to build a tall enough island and run water to it)
I do get ants a couple times a year, and have to bust out the terrible Tero traps, but those usually work pretty well.
I've been getting little gnats that the wind traps against my front door, but yesterday I discovered a spiderweb in a hidden corner whose owner has clearly been disposing of the majority that managed to get inside.
