I'm pretty sure we'll get through the next few days without a successful coup. But if we don't get some goddamned consequences in place, this will just happen again until it works. Arrest all of the mob. Prosecute them. Put them in jail. Arrest Tr**p for inciting insurrection and treason. Prosecute him. Put him in jail. No one gets to skate. No "healing" or "unity" or "coming together".
People have just attempted to destroy the country. They need to experience consequences. This isn't just me being pissy about norms or whatever. Right now that mob is getting attention, they're scaring people they hate, and the Capitol cops are taking selfies with them. There's one person in the mob who got shot, but we don't even know by which side (this is not a group famous for trigger discipline). Even though I don't think they'll achieve their ultimate aims today, this is still a rollicking good time for them, and they have every incentive to keep trying until they get what they want. We need to change that.

It's...something else that the VA National Guard is on the way to clear out invaders in the Capitol, some of whom are waving Confederate flags.
