YAY JESSICA!!!! (This is a time, I feel, when multiple exclamation marks are warranted.)
For those who don't follow me on the facebook:
Who's a dumbass who went roller skating despite having a premonition I was going to get hurt? This girl right here. Took a bad fall and popped my knee the wrong direction last night, and this morning's urgent care suspects it is a torn meniscus. I vacillate between a mild ache and sharp pains when I do the wrong thing on it, and my walk is a hobble (super convenient in the world's least ADA compliant house with a giant puppy who doesn't understand why I won't play with him). Anyway, it may need surgery, but they won't know until they can get an MRI, and I can't get that referral until my PCP's office opens on Monday, at which point I will be flying to Florida to meet up with Drew and my dad. I've already requested wheelchair transportation in the airport since I don't think I can manage a suitcase or carry-on while I slowly hobble through the terminal.
The housesitter arrived tonight, and she's very sweet and helpful already, so that's one less thing to worry about. She's going to go through the morning and evening routine with the pets tomorrow so she can see how it all works.
In the short term, they did an X-ray (no fracture) and prescribed anti-inflammatories and pain meds to get me through. I'm lucky I can put limited weight on it, so I can still walk (very carefully and slowly). I'm just annoyed with myself for not listening to my gut. It could have been much worse, so I'm trying to focus on that. And it really will be okay.
Will it be Mistress Jess or Doctor Jess?
Mistress - if I ever lose my mind and try to go for a doctorate, just smack me in the back of the head until I come to my senses please.
Kristin, oh no!! Glad it's not a fracture but that sounds very unfun.
Hope the travel is going as well as it can today K!
Yikes, good travel and knee getting better vibes to you, Pix.

Ha ha! I feel this.

I leave tomorrow, actually, which is really nice. It gives me a day to acclimate the housesitter, S., and pack, relax, etc.
Pix, your poor knee! I think you should tell people it was from trying out for roller derby.
Oh no, Pix! At least you got the kind of injury that multimillionaire athletes get.
You're probably going to notice some loss of lateral movement when you go to dunk in Lebron's face next season.
Also, while it's not as cool as "I fell down a volcano," rollerskating still counts as a good story.
Certainly better than my "dramatically exited the movie theater and promptly tripped over a bike rack" ER story. Hope your recovery goes smoothly, Pix!
I love all these suggestions.
I would say I'd smack you upside the head, Jess, but, realistically, I'd probably pull my pom-poms out of retirement (I have no retired pom-poms, but...) and cheer you on relentlessly and annoyingly, so.
Bought my holiday cards today and plan to do them off and on for the rest of the day, with Christmas music playing and some eggnog and hot chocolate (separately).
I imagine the spiked egg nog fueled cards will be more entertaining, so here's hoping you all get some of those.
