Wesley: Feng Shui. Gunn: Right. What's that mean again? Wesley: That people will believe anything. Actually, in this place, Feng Shui will probably have enormous significance. I'll align my furniture the wrong way and suddenly catch fire or turn into a pudding.

Good job, Jesse!

I hated that when I was last hourly, Sophia - clocking out for lunch complicated everything, it was customary to stand by the time clock waiting for it to be exactly a half hour so you could clock back in exactly on time, and people would do the same thing at the end of the day to hit 8 hours exactly, but I did not. If I was under 40 hours for the week they wanted me to use my vacation time to make up the difference (which I finally convinced my supervisor we really did not have to do, they could just pay me for the 39.75 hours or whatever it was). We had a physical timeclock at the time although I believe we went to virtual when everyone was WFH under lockdown but I was salaried again at that point and just, you know, working constantly. I'm glad to hear your boss is in your corner, Sophia, and I hope the powers that be show some sense.

The whole thing where it's made out to be the worker's responsibility to work exactly to time makes me so mad. It costs them extra if they require too much work from you, but that is somehow your fault for doing too much work! Argh!

Yay for no court.

Actual time clocking is just... such a pain. Ugh, when I was in retail, I mean, I guess it more or less made sense for that, actually, but people (including me) were constantly forgetting to clock in (on the computer) before they started, only realizing it when they couldn't use the register. I'm starting to give myself agita just writing about those days!

I was always making adjustments to people's hours for minute increments. I guess I could've been more of a hardass, but... I am not, and retail is hard enough without an asshole manager.

Intense work week M-Th this week, so today is a pleasant shift. I'm sending out holiday card emails (slowly - don't panic if you don't get yours until tonight!), making food, about to get blood drawn (routine), hoping to get the tree up.

Also, it is cold.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I feel like I have checked enough things off my list that I should be done for the week, but I guess not? (My direct report is on parental leave so I have many items on my list that would have been on his!)

Does anyone here follow Carolyn Hax? She just gave me an anonymous high-five in her chat, because I submitted a comment that said "FUUUUUUUCK THATTTTTT." Hee.

Brushes with celebrity all over the place!

So, I bought a wine advent calendar from Costco, not really intending to use it as an advent calendar, just thinking it was a mixed case of assorted wines and I like variety (it is actually 24 half bottles of assorted wines, which is even better from my POV) but here it is Dec 2 and I haven't broken into any of them and while 24 half-bottles in 23 days seems like more wine than I probably want to drink I might go ahead and see how many days into it I get before deciding that...the first wine is a Bulgarian Cabernet Sauvignon, which is pretty intriguing. Not, obviously, opening anything until after work.

High-five!! For the celebrity citing as well, but I probably am more excited about Carolyn Hax.

I have done SOME tasks today, but I cannot make myself watch this recorded webinar. It's basically a video of a powerpoint presentation and I just cannot focus on it.
