Punishingly Intricate

Made a cauliflower salad and mushroom gravy last night. Roasting carrots now and then heading out to my parents’ in Frederick where I’ll roast a wee turkey breast and Bob will shuck oysters. Then headed to my brother’s family where they are making all the other things. It’s just the 7 of us which is still so odd. Pre-pandemic we’d always celebrate with the whole 40 or so members of my Mom’s family or a good half of them. But it’s too hard for my Dad to travel back up to Delaware now. We’ll have a good feast today but it’s still a bit sad.

Which is to say, we used to need at least 10 lb of potatoes for Thanksgiving but no more

Apparently if you're enough of a power nerd, there is nothing that cannot be flowcharted.

We're going to my mom and stepdad's and it's just going to be the 4 of us, but it sounds like Mom is making enough food for 12 people (Tofurkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, roasted brussels sprouts, and cranberry relish; I'm bringing stuffing, green beans, and pie).

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Woo hoo! I found my immersion blender and the roasting pan! This makes up for letting the cranberry sauce boil over.

Turkey was dry brined over night, so I just need to get butter and herbs under it's skin and pop it in the oven. Then I'm making the mushroom stew.

Emmett's coming over shortly and I'll put him to work. Both he and Matilda, and Matilda's friend Mia (who is joining us) can all be put to work assembling appetizers.

Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate, and happy Thursday to everyone else!

Crazy busy lately, I'm moving three blocks down the street, but it is just as much work. But, new place has a pool, rooftop deck, and non-shitty management.

I'm in CT, not just because I'm moving, but because my mother finally pissed my brother off enough that he cancelled Thanksgiving at his house. It works out though, having these extra 3-4 days is helpful.

Bourbon pecan pie is currently in the oven, having Friendsgiving later today. Packing and planning, ugh.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Thanksgiving is my day off between A Christmas Carol tech and New Stages tech so I've got a curry going in the slow cooker and I'm lounging about, reading, usually with 1-2 cats on top of me.

Worth it! But having done it recently, I'm muy simpatico with your moving hassles.

Lovely!

Emmett arrived and he and Matilda were cackling like fiends within a matter of minutes as she took him to the bathroom to work on his skincare routine, whilst mocking his hair.

We had a late addition to our Thanksgiving guest list when Matilda's friend, Mia, was available. So she slept over and she's prepping appetizers. Emmett's downstairs in the Garden Apartment making deviled eggs because apparently those were necessary.

Turkey's in the oven. I've started my mushroom stew and it tastes fab. But I'll just saute up the fancier 'shrooms to top the stew. Matilda's making the pastry cups that the mushroom stew goes into.

Congrats on the new place, Vortex!

The turkey roulade came out tasty, if not as tightly rolled as in the recipe photo. I’ve added it to my recipe folder. Friends came, ate, made appreciative sounds, chatted a good long while, and left with leftovers. One of them brought goodies from the local nice bakery and one brought lots of wine, both of which provided leftovers for me (along with the remainder of my cooking). So I am set on food and drink for the rest of the week. And then some.

Hec, your menu sounds great!

You all are eating some good, good stuff.

We just got back from my nephew's. A good time and good food were both had by all. I got to hold a tiny baby and be amused by his two year old brother, which was lovely.

Now, probs watch a movie and play some Mario golf together!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Went to my uncle's as usual, and just brought veg and dip, mostly because we took the commuter rail there, but we brought the turkey carcass home with us! Because my aunt would literally throw it away.
