For years I took sick days almost 1 a quarter sick or not, mental health days. But that was often at jobs with very little vacation and no personal days.
With 12 office holiday days a year, 5 personal days, and plenty (but still not enough) vacation, I haven’t done that with this job.
I keep thinking I should institute some kind of regular sick day taking whether I need it or not just because I have accumulated almost 3 weeks and that doesn't get paid out if you leave.
Timelies all!
I haven't used a lot of sick leave-an hour here, an hour there for doctors' appointments mostly.(Though I used 5 hours today because we had an appointment at 11:30 with Mr. S's psychiatrist)
I was willing to use my sick leave when I had covid, but I had been put on a different type of leave.
We get 3 sick days a year, which is so ridiculous that I'm choosing to ignore it.
I am in the weird position of having so much vacation, I regularly lose it. I am carrying over 5 weeks per year and I get 5 weeks per year. I cannot take 10 weeks vacation and I wish I could give it to others. This is still because of a terrible job I had at the same company 17 years ago who would not let me take vacation, plus Covid, plus the fact that I am a single person dependency for several things. Basically I COULD, right now stop working for the rest of the year! And I feel guilty about it because I also have unlimited sick time, but after 10 days I have to apply for short term disability.
We are working on fixing this, but it is a slow process to untangle 17 years of single person dependency on an urgent problem solving thing…
I am sorry guys- the actual pay is terrible.
Take a day every couple of weeks. They will be fine for 1 day. Or start with taking half days. You deserve to have your time.
It's true! That's what I did in 2020, and it was great.
Okay, so I know I'm an apostate. Here are photos from my oldest boy's wedding.

Oldest boys wedding? Surely that can’t be right Cindy! Old enough to marry???
I have never had a job with separate sick and vacation time, only PTO. Which is maybe BS for in office jobs but I’ve worked from home (and/or traveling) for 15 years, so almost never need sick time anyway. (And after 5 days we can do STD)
