Thrive to spite them

YAY MAc got a job.

Boo Covid.

Steph -- I'm really sorry you have this stress but I'm glad your brother is handling a lot of this and I hope that this ends up with your dad getting the help he really needs.

I went up to Mom's Thursday after work and just came back this evening (it's Sat) so I got at least a whole day with her. Her house in FL is under contract and the closing date is relatively soon. So yay for that. My aunt seems to be doing a little better in the assisted living, although she called the other day to tell my Mom she woke up and was blind and then called Mom around 3:00 in the afternoon but didn't want to call a nurse. Mom called the assisted living place and hasn't ever heard back so I guess it was nothing. I dunno. Somehow CPS was informed about something regarding my cousin's son BUT it seems to be positive, his mom was honest about her struggles and CPS is going to get them more support and hopefully therapy so... I hope that works. Then Mom told me she's had some GI issues for about a month and finally went to the doctor yesterday. The doctor said he thought it was... I can't remember but basically he thinks her gut flora has gotten out of balance and gave her medicine and said to have clear liquids for 2 days, semi clear for 2 days and then a bland diet for about a week. She's decided that she feels better and doesn't need it. I told her she needs to at least try the diet and if she really thinks her problems are over then call the doctor on Monday to see if she needs to take the medicine.

Then I came home and there was awesome mail from David-- I have all kinds of cool stickers- an Edward Gorey sticker book, pens, washi tape, Spririted Away pencils. It's awesome!

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

I'm sorry, Steph.

Mr. S has been out of sorts again. This time it's because of an item I ordered him that was supposed to arrive yesterday, It didn't, and now UPS has no delivery date listed. He doesn't understand that there's nothing I can do about it, and has thrown things at me because he's frustrated. I am tired of being his target.

Ah, OK. Well, so I wasn't close. Still thought of you though!

Heading home, yay.

Fun!

Dad is not hospitalized -- here's the text from my brother about the mental health crisis team's visit with Dad: "They were not concerned enough to hospitalize him, hut they said that he doesn’t seem to know what meds he’s supposed to be taking. They’re going back over tomorrow to set up his meds for the next few weeks so he’s taking what he needs to take. They said that calling the cops nine times in three months doesn’t come close to their threshold for concern."

What the fuck is this nonsense? Granted, if he hasn't been consistently taking his antipsychotic medication, maybe taking it consistently will actually help him. But it's so goddamn frustrating. My brother is still going to follow up tomorrow with the geriatrician's NP to get a referral for a psychiatrist. Maybe that'll help.

The worst part is that I *know* this is a mental illness and he's not having hallucinations *at* us, so I'm really trying to have compassion for that aspect of all this, BUT alongside the mental illness he's also still just a giant asshole, and talking to him on the phone is legitimately awful.

...he doesn’t seem to know what meds he’s supposed to be taking.

I have found the Medisafe app on my phone to be really helpful at keeping me on track with my daily medications. [link]

My dad will only use a flip phone, even after I showed him how cool the weather apps are (he is legit obsessed with the weather, so I thought that would be a big draw for him).

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

WTF? is right, Teppy. That is terrible. I can't believe they think he is capable of taking his meds, even with them setting them up for him, in his current state.

That was my thought too. He's not going to stay on schedule with his meds in his current state.

Then I thought, "This is why we need to replace the internet with a pneumatic tube system, because then he could just be prompted to the appropriate tube and they could shoot the meds into his mouth."

So, you can see I'm always innovating.
